Yet More Religion-esque Babble…

Although many of the comments that this blog receives can be found in posts about flashy (and biblically bankrupt) pulpit pimps, my purpose is to expose false teaching in the church in all of it’s various forms. As the church slides further into apostasy at the hands of life coaches, motivational speakers, spirit guides, soothsayers, and theological lightweights (all pretending to be “deep”), we must remember how foolish these people sound when we use Holy Scripture to weigh their words and actions.

I’ve talked about philosophical teaching vs. expository preaching as well as Sola Scriptura before, so this post is a further illustration. Take Wayne Dyer, PBS’ telethon workhorse (anytime they need to bring in some dough, they show Wayne’s video’s). Wayne’s got an interesting philosophy on religion (in general):

“My belief is that the truth is a truth until you organize it, and then becomes a lie. I don’t think that Jesus was teaching Christianity, Jesus was teaching kindness, love, concern, and peace. What I tell people is don’t be Christian, be Christ like. Don’t be Buddhist, be Buddha like.”

“Religion is orthodoxy, rules and historical scriptures maintained by people over long periods of time. Generally people are raised to obey the customs and practices of that religion without question. These are customs and expectations from outside the person and do not fit my definition of spiritual.”

I don’t want to alarm anyone, but I can (basically) agree with Wayne’s basic thought of religion as orthodoxy – but for a vastly different reason. It can be viewed as a system of “thou shalt nots”, thus squeezing the God-breathed inspiration and direction for righteous living out of it. I’d rather have a relationship with God through His only Begotten Son Jesus Christ than a membership in some social networking club “church” that only preaches Christ crucified on special occasions.

What Wayne didn’t do (in his quote above or any of his videos that I’ve seen) is proclaim that repentance of sin and redemption from eternal damnation can ONLY be found in the redeeming Blood of Jesus Christ.

Our brother bezel333 has prepared an excellent video comparing Wayne’s “philosophy” to the Word of God:

A “field of intention” vs. our Holy and Righteous God?

OK…I think I got it.

But hey you Word of Faither’s (or WOFer’s), Wayne didn’t leave you out. He affirmed the heretical teachings that you love (and have been twisted so out of shape that they’re quoted incorrectly ad-nauseaum). You know, you are “little gods” and you can “speak those things that be not…”

Thank God for His Holy Word, the Westminster Confession of Faith and the Westminster Catechism. It makes sound doctrinal beliefs easy to understand, and defend when presented with garbage like this.

Our only hope is through trusting Jesus Christ for eternal salvation (1 Peter 1:3-9NASB)- not some impersonal “field of intention”.
