Another “Baptist” Chasing After The Apostate Catholic Church

***hat tip to Melvin over at Pulpit Pimps for who wrote about this first***

Good grief. No, the man pictured above is not the new black pope…he’s a Baptist preacher.

Excuse me…bishop.

I don’t know how I missed this story, but I did. It looks like the black charismatic church has acquired yet another “bishop” (as if there aren’t enough):

The pastor becomes a bishop

Pageantry adorns the Rev. Claude Alexander’s consecration ceremony

Big hats, raised flags, lighted candles, multi-colored vestments. The Rev. Claude Alexander of Charlotte’s University Park Baptist Church was consecrated this week as a bishop in the Kingdom Association of Covenant Pastors. The splendor of images was a feast for the eyes.

And for the soul, says Bishop Oscar Brown, a Baltimore-based pastor who was the episcopal consultant for the Wednesday night ceremony at the former Merchandise Mart in Charlotte.

Though the association is a mostly Baptist group, Alexander’s bishop garb and other symbols on display recalled the more ancient traditions of the Roman Catholic church. Brown says some Protestant faiths are embracing some of those old ways.

“The pageantry needs to return to the church, with understanding,” says Brown. “In the past, we as Baptists threw out everything without understanding that it had biblical reference.”

For those of you who don’t reside in the Charlotte, NC area, Claude Alexander is a pretty big deal up there. I’ve heard him speak live in the past (at a men’s conference when I was still drinking the Kool-Aid). He is a real Doctor, not one of these phony wanna be’s. But alas, old Claude is also a friend of TD Jakes, Eddie Long, and other vipers that distort the Word of God, so I shouldn’t be surprised to see him elevating his game. Now he’s a “bishop” in a made-up denomination called the Kingdom Association of Covenant Pastors.

I grew up in a traditional “missionary baptist” church. When I was a kid, a preacher was called a preacher. Every now and then we’d get an “evangelist” to visit the church (usually during the pastor’s anniversary), and we thought that was “high cotton”.

But a “bishop”? Seriously? Why is most of black Christiandom so enamored with the “bread & circuses” of the apostate Roman Catholic Church?

Think I’m exaggerating, well take a look at some photos of Claude’s “coming out” party. Wow – alter boys? Coats of Arms? Is this a Knights of Columbus convention?

Let’s think about this for a moment…The Roman Catholic Church (more affectionately know as the Cult of Mary) has elevated one man to the position of “holy father” of billions of people around the globe. Also, the RCC is a multi-billion dollar “ministry” where the “holy father” serves as a pseudo head of state in a sovereign mini-country (the Vatican) within a city.

I guess those are good enough reasons for a pimp (or wanna be)to embrace the RCC – surely those facts feed into the pimp’s desire for control.

But what about the other apostasy that comes with allegiance to the RCC – praying to dead saints for intercession with the Father? Salvation through works? The belief that Jesus isn’t the only way to God?

Wow – would you really want to admire that heresy and apostasy…just so you can wear a funky hat with a flowing robe and a crooked stick?

Matthew 23:5-7 (New American Standard Bible)

5“But they do all their deeds (A)to be noticed by men; for they (B)broaden their [a]phylacteries and lengthen (C)the tassels of their garments.

6“They (D)love the place of honor at banquets and the chief seats in the synagogues,

7and respectful greetings in the market places, and being called (E)Rabbi by men.

If you’re so inclined to fall all over these “bishops”, then be my guest.

I’m sure they’ll keep falling more and more deeply in love with the apostate Roman Catholic Church until one day they’ll have you praying to old dead “Elder Washington” (the patron saint of crunk youth ministry) to intercede on behalf of your children.

Oh, by the way – if you’re an apologist for the apostate Roman Catholic Church, then keep it moving (2 John 1:10-11).
