Manipulation and Spiritual Molestation

This week’s public revelations of Eddie Long’s alleged dalliances brings the topic of manipulation and molestation to the forefront of Christiandom…again.

I intentionally emphasize the word “public” because rumors have swirled around Eddie’s alleged proclivities for years. I saw things I considered strange while I was a drone at Eddie’s club for 6 years – including parades of young men and boys who followed him everywhere he went, ceremonies where congregants pledged their undying allegiance to him, and sheep after sheep quoting Eddie rather than God’s Word through scripture.

As a blogger, I also receive countless emails from people who accuse Eddie (and others) of all manner of illicit evil – claiming to have “proof” of their assertions. I press for the evidence, and they usually stand down. I don’t pass along unsubstantiated  or uncorroborated information, so the rumors remain just that…rumors.

In fact, when Eddie decided to meet with Soulforce (a lobbying group of unrepentant homosexuals) several years ago – later declaring that he “didn’t understand homosexuality” when he preached against it, many (including me) thought someone was blackmailing Eddie to publicly endorse the homosexual agenda. Eddie even offered his church to Soulforce so they could teach courses on human sexuality.

Eddie and his accusers will eventually have their day in court – and the truth will be revealed. Detractors will never believe that Eddie is innocent, and supporters will never believe that he is guilty. Nonetheless, Eddie strode to the podium of his club yesterday in the midst of full fanfare – adoring supporters, swelling music, and “praise” and “worship” hurled in his direction. While reading from his iPad (take that, Jimmy Swaggart – you crybaby), Long didn’t necessarily deny specific allegations – in fact he said “I’m not perfect, but I’m not the man you see portrayed on tv…” – meaning he may eventually cop to some embarrassing revelations during the settlement of the case (while still denying others), and he wanted to blunt a potential future blow.

As I have written in the past, I believe that Eddie is an egomaniac and a master marketer, yet he seemed subdued addressing the sheeple in his club on Sunday. Jamal Bryant could’ve applied the same tact when he addressed his sheeple after revelations of the birth of his latest out-of-wedlock child with a young congregant several years ago. While Bryant manipulated scripture to declare that he was “still the man!”, Eddie sort of tossed out the usual David v. Goliath, Psalms 34:19 references (although a full read of Psalms 34 would make you wonder if someone accused of such troubling allegations really fears the Lord).

In a nod to Jamal, Eddie did throw out a threatning ode to his accusers (“…I’ve got 5 stones, and I haven’t thrown one yet!”), then he gave an omnious stare while putting the microphone down abruptly and walking away…all to the roar of an adoring and approving crowd. 🙄

The bottom line, however, is that these accusations (as well as the flood of litigants waiting to come forward to cast further allegations against Long) continue to illustrate the dangers of power – absolute power – in the mega church.

Eddie Long and his reprobate band of infamous colleagues are spiritual molesters and manipulators. Although the word “molest” generally has sexual connotations, the word also means “to harass, annoy, and interfere”. These minstrels have inserted themselves into the lives of their sheeple for years – with express invitation from those sheeple – and wreaked havoc that takes years to recover from once the victim finally escapes the predator’s clutches.

The video below is a clear example of the effects of spiritual manipulation and molestation (h/t to my brother Pastor Foster over at Gay Christian Movement Watch). How else can you explain the fact that these children are being sent out as lambs to slaughter to defend Eddie Long? Clearly an egomaniac regime would sanction this nonsense:

Did you catch Don Lemon’s revelation of sexual molestation at the hands of a homosexual pedophile? Are you starting to see how serious the parallel is?

Ever since I escaped the church mafia plantation several years ago, I’ve cautioned against the false gospel that these meglomaniacs preach: from complete and total allegiance to them, to ex-communication of former members, to false application of scripture concerning finances and church authority. No matter how egregious these claims may be, there are still mind-numb sheep who will continue to see Eddie Long (and Creflo Dollar, Jamal Bryant, Benny Hinn, Paula White, TD Jakes, and all other manner of charlatans) as anointed doves released directly from God’s palm for their edification.

I do not gloat at these latest allegations (nor the ones soon to come), but I will remind you of a few things:

DO NOT treat your pastor as though he is your “daddy”:

Don’t let your pastor manipulate you into giving – declaring that you’re cursed if you don’t:

Don’t let your pastor manipulate you into leaving your family and friends behind because they don’t understand “the new you”:

Don’t swear allegiance to your pastor!:

Although Eddie has been accused of sexual manipulation, he (and other charlatans) actively apply spiritual manipulation and molestation as a way to persuade their followers that they are extensions of God Himself. I’ll end this public service announcement with the words of the prophet Jeremiah (emphasis bolded):

Jeremiah 17:5-8 (New American Standard Bible)

5Thus says the LORD,
“Cursed is the man who trusts in mankind
         And makes flesh his strength,
And whose heart turns away from the LORD
6“For he will be like a bush in the desert
And will not see when prosperity comes,
But will live in stony wastes in the wilderness,
A land of salt without inhabitant.
7Blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD
And whose trust is the LORD.

8“For he will be like a tree planted by the water,
That extends its roots by a stream
         And will not fear when the heat comes;
But its leaves will be green,
And it will not be anxious in a year of drought
         Nor cease to yield fruit.

In fact, a full review of Jeremiah 17 couldn’t hurt. Human beings are designed to yield to the sins of our flesh – it’s the curse that Adam and Eve left us with. This is why you should elevate NO ONE to God-like status…NO ONE.

I believe that Eddie Long is as guilty as sin, but that’s my opinion. Clearly he’s failed the test that qualifies him as worthy of church leadership (emphasis bolded):

1 Timothy 3:1-7 (New American Standard Bible)

1It is a trustworthy statement: if any man aspires to the office of overseer, it is a fine work he desires to do.

2An overseer, then, must be above reproach, the husband of one wife, temperate, prudent, respectable, hospitable, able to teach,

3)not addicted to wine or pugnacious, but gentle, peaceable, free from the love of money.

4He must be one who manages his own household well, keeping his children under control with all dignity

5(but if a man does not know how to manage his own household, how will he take care of the church of God?),

6and not a new convert, so that he will not become conceited and fall into the condemnation incurred by the devil.

7And he must have a good reputation with those outside the church, so that he will not fall into reproach and the snare of the devil.

Pray for all parties involved in this mess and other past, present, and future scandal. Most of all, pray that the Lord’s will would continue to be made manifest in these last days.

The Pimp of Baltimore and his (latest) Rogue’s Gallery

hat tip to reader “CW” for the scoop on this story…

I’ve been really busy with life lately (work, family, evangelism, sleep), and I appreciate the notes inquiring about my well being. Glory to God – all is well.

I’m sad/not surprised to see that “Dr.” Jamal “the Prince Pimp of Baltimore” Bryant hasn’t been wasting his time repenting before the Lord for his endless false teaching, or stepping down from church leadership until he has received biblical counseling for his adulterous, baby making (outside of marriage) ways while I was away.

Looks like the POB has just wrapped up his latest “Empowerment Conference” – and take a look at his latest rogues gallery:

I’m not very familiar with the other speakers at this get-together, but I have to believe that they are either (a) oblivious to the degenerates on the program with them, or (b) in agreement with the degenerates on the program with them. At this point, it’s safe to say that Christ crucified, salvation through Christ with no “help” from sowing seeds, or holiness WAS NOT ON THE AGENDA.

The fruit that these people have cultivated should be a clear indication to STAY AWAY FROM THEM – no matter how they pretend to be “wise” and “deep” in seeking to “empower” you:

Matthew 7:15-23 (New American Standard Bible)

15“Beware of the false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly are ravenous wolves.

16“You will know them by their fruits. Grapes are not gathered from thorn bushes nor figs from thistles, are they?

17“So every good tree bears good fruit, but the bad tree bears bad fruit.

18“A good tree cannot produce bad fruit, nor can a bad tree produce good fruit.

19“Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.

20“So then, you will know them by their fruits.

21“Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven will enter.

22“Many will say to Me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name cast out demons, and in Your name perform many miracles?’

23“And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; DEPART FROM ME, YOU WHO PRACTICE LAWLESSNESS.’

Is Pastor John Hunter of First AME L.A. A Pimp?

The man pictured above is Pastor John Hunter of The First AME Church of Los Angeles (a/k/a “FAME” church). FAME is one of the “it” churches in the LA area – a place where the well-known go to be seen worship. Pastor John even allowed Flavor Fav to bring his “reality show” coon show to FAME a few years ago. Now, allowing a buffoonish minstrel to parade a group of “women” into his church for a reality hoe show is grounds enough to qualify Pastor John for pulpit pimpdom – particularly since VH1 likely left a generous “love offering”. Nevertheless, it appears as though other activities may just push Pastor John into the ranks with Fast Eddie Long, TD Fakes, and the others:

First AME Pastor’s Spending Examined

LA Times – 11/30/08

The pastor of the First African Methodist Episcopal Church, one of the oldest and most prominent black congregations in Los Angeles, used church credit cards to pay for at least $122,000 in personal expenses over a three-year period, including jewelry, family vacations, clothing and auto supplies, according to documents and church sources.

The spending came to light during the course of an independent audit and Internal Revenue Service investigation into the financial affairs of the pastor, John J. Hunter; his wife, Denise Brown Hunter; and the church, according to people connected with the church, who spoke on condition of anonymity because they feared retaliation.

Fear of retaliation? Do I smell church mafia with a hint of pimpdom? Nah…

Earlier this year, field officials in the Los Angeles office of the IRS’ criminal division issued summonses to two banks and a charge card company to testify and produce financial records involving Hunter and the church, documents obtained by The Times show. IRS officials would not respond to questions about the status of their investigation.

In an interview Saturday, Hunter, 51, said he has signed an agreement to repay the church, though he would not confirm the amount owed or the details of the payment plan. He also denied any criminal wrongdoing and said he was working with tax authorities to repay his back taxes.

OK, so why does PJ admit that he had to “repay the church”? I thought the “mand of gawd” was allowed to plunder the treasury…God does want him to be blessed, right? So why “repay” for what is rightfully his…right?

“Some things were probably inappropriately charged to the church credit card, but all of these issues have been resolved,” Brown Dillon said. “The church is not going to suffer any losses.”

Now I’m starting to get some clarity. The issue “has been resolved” because no one wants the “mand of gawd” to “curse them” for calling him on the carpet for stealing (that’s the legal term for taking something that does not belong to you). So what was “inappropriately charged”? Wait for it…wait for it…

Hunter’s financial issues have alienated some church members, who say they were dismayed by reports of what they viewed as lavish spending at a time of great economic need in the community.

Between January 2005 and January 2008, Hunter’s spending included more than $6,000 on clothes, $3,000 on auto supplies, more than $2,000 on jewelry, $1,000 on bicycles and more than $10,000 on personal purchases during church-sponsored trips to India and China, according to documents obtained by The Times.

Imagine that – another mega church pastor spending lavishly while the community around his church club crumbles. Truth be told, the amount spent of clothing, auto supplies and jewelry isn’t that much to spend over a 3 year period. That said, the man already gets a very comfortable “salary” (plus extras) from the congregation, so why use church credit cards to buy personal items?

Because he can, that’s why.

And let’s not forget that PJ “opted out” of paying federal taxes (without telling the Feds, mind you), so he’s on the hook with the government too.

The LA Times did an update on the story earlier today:

First AME pastor apologizes to congregation for alleged misspending

LA Times – 12/1/08

The pastor of First African Methodist Episcopal Church in Los Angeles apologized to his congregants Sunday for any embarrassment caused by disclosures that he had used church credit cards for sizable personal expenses and had failed to pay federal taxes for several years.

Pastor John J. Hunter, 51, used church credit cards to pay for at least $122,000 in personal expenses, including family vacations, clothes, jewelry, bikes and auto supplies, The Times reported Sunday. He and church finance officials said he had signed an agreement to repay the money and instituted stricter accounting policies, such as spending guidelines and more frequent audits, to guard against future problems.

Hunter also told The Times that he is working with federal tax officials to repay back taxes, penalties and interest amassed over 17 years, which have resulted in federal tax liens of more than $309,000 against himself and his wife, Denise Brown Hunter. He explained that he had legally opted out of the Social Security system several years ago, as ministers are allowed to do, but that the IRS had no record of it and assessed the taxes.

At least he admitted it, right? Well it’s easier to “admit” to something when the Feds have your…um…unmentionables in a vice – and there are NO alternatives.

OK, so here’s the bottom line. John Hunter has no business leading a church right now. He has proven that he can’t handle his personal affairs (his taxes) and he used church property (credit cards) for personal purchases for 3 years! Lets remember what Paul said about the qualifications for church elders:

1 Timothy 3:1-7 (New American Standard Bible)

1 (A)It is a trustworthy statement: if any man aspires to the (B)office of overseer, it is a fine work he desires to do.

2 (C)An overseer, then, must be above reproach, (D)the husband of one wife, (E)temperate, prudent, respectable, (F)hospitable, (G)able to teach,

3 (H)not addicted to wine or pugnacious, but gentle, peaceable, (I)free from the love of money.

4 He must be one who (J)manages his own household well, keeping his children under control with all dignity

5 (but if a man does not know how to manage his own household, how will he take care of (K)the church of God?),

6 and not a new convert, so that he will not become (L)conceited and fall into the (M)condemnation incurred by the devil.

7 And he must (N)have a good reputation with (O)those outside the church, so that he will not fall into reproach and (P)the snare of the devil.

So is John Hunter a pimp? I don’t know.

I’ve never heard him preach or teach, but it appears as though he’s slipping into pimpistry. At best the AME denominational leadership should sit him down, counsel him, and rehabilitate him for service to their membership.

Wishful thinking, considering that the AME church is also the home of Jamal Bryant – the Pimp of Baltimore…and we already know how he runs amok with no supervision or oversight.

Oh well, a man can dream…

Pimpin’ Ain’t Easy…

hat tip to Melvin over at Pulpit Pimps for this depiction of Jamal, twisting as usual…

As I mentioned previously, last week was the bi-annual “Pay A Pimp A Dollar” week over at TBN (The Baal Network). And true to form, they trotted out one of their top earners: “Dr.” Jamal “The Prince Pimp of Baltimore” Bryant.

It seems as though the good “Dr.” got tired of getting into your voting booth and your bedroom, so he returned to doing what he’s most comfortable doing (well, what he’s most comfortable doing with his clothes on)

…getting into your wallet:

Jamal Bryant on the Fall ’08 TBN Fleece-a-Thon

hat tip to our brother Matt Green, who has more videos like this at his YouTube page

Ahh, who can forget such sage wisdom from the Word of God, like:

You are marked for destiny when you are broke with expensive taste

And of course, Jamal wouldn’t be the Prince Pimp of Baltimore if he didn’t butcher a little scripture, right? Let’s see, the entire crux of the story of Joseph and his dream in Genesis 37, 39, 40, and 41 is that we can all drive nice cars and buy nice things?

Silly me, I always thought that Joesph’s story was a lesson in overcoming adversity, moral guilt (regarding Joseph’s treatment at the hands of his brothers), repentance (their return to him and his forgiveness of their sins toward him), and God’s sovereignty (using Joseph to feed a nation) – an early shadow of Christ’s experiences.

I guess I’m just not deep enough.

Oh well, at least Prince Pimp Jamal can tell a good tale…and shake a few coins loose in the process.

Pimpin’ ain’t easy…

(Pulpit) Pimp (Website) Down!

My blog colleague over at has been hit with another cyberattack, and he’s been down for almost two weeks.

My brother Independent Conservative is a techie – and he does a better job of explaining what happened: Will Be Back, Sometime…

by @ 9:34 pm. Filed under Tech

Melvin’s blog has suffered another infiltration by hackers, who were using his web resources for nefarious purposes. Who is behind it I don’t know, other than knowing they do the work of their father the devil, but I’ve seen all kinds of sites suffer these kinds of things.

Just wanted to let everyone know the issue is being addressed and Melvin will have the blog back up when he can.

So there you have it – Melvin hasn’t been kidnapped by Jamal Bryant or TD Jakes, so hopefully he’ll be back to work soon.

The Prince Pimp Of Baltimore Endorses Obama

***hat tip to my brother over at the blog Eric’s Corner for sending me the video and getting my blood pressure elevated…once again***

I’m shocked, shocked I tell you!

“Dr.” Jamal Bryant, the prince pimp of Baltimore, adulterer and “baby daddy” (to a young lady who attends/attended his church club – and was allegedly 17 years old at the time of conception!) has taken a moment to stop declaring that he’s “still the man” to weigh in on the presidential race (i.e. line up for the anointing of Barack“new jesus”).

C’mon, you didn’t think the prince pimp would endorse the evil white radical Republicans, did you?

The prince pimp took to the pulpit to officially declare that Barack“new jesus” is in fact our coming redeemer 🙄

Allow me a moment to wipe the dung off of me that the prince pimp was throwing around…

Now, let’s break it down:

We’re in the midst of a recession and many of us are scrambling just to make the paycheck stretch itself out so that there’s enough food for our children, so that the lights will remain on

I love how these pimps say “we’re struggling”  when in fact their demands on your money are contributing factors in your struggling in the first place! Jamal’s children are fed (ALL of them) and his lights come on effortlessly. He makes well over $350K per year, so don’t think he “feels your pain”.

…Cindy McCain comes out in a $300,000 outfit…bespeckled with pure diamonds from Russia…any many of our citizens can’t afford diamonds and are paying off student loans

Don’t forget folks that this degenerate adulterer/baby daddy/ pimp drives a leased 2006 Bentley Continental Flying Spur (or at least he did last year) – valued at $140,000 (used). Also, he bragged about his “custom tailors on different continents” when he was defending his pastorship in light of his adulterous ways. He’s got the…um….cojones’  to say this in front of a crowd that throws their hard earned money at his feet? I’m no McCain fan, but this clown is in no position to call them out!

…Sarah “Pollen”…is conflicted and bipolar…this woman says she’s against sex education in our public schools at the same time waltzes across her 17 year old pregnant daughter..this same woman…got married when she was 3 months pregnant, then tried to cover it up against her own parents will…this same woman who is under an ultra conservative had an affair 5 years ago with her husband’s business partner

Uh-oh prince pimp Jamal, let’s not start talking about family mess…remember your incident with a 17 year old, and your adultery. 😆

Maybe those clown outfits and 3 foot wide neckties are starting to restrict the oxygen that goes to Jamal’s brain 🙄

This same woman, who took 7 years just to get a bachelors degree having failed out of 2 community colleges…this is who you would put up against a Harvard graduate?…

Um, princepimp Jamal – Sarah “Pollen” is not running against your “new jesus” – she’s #2 on the ticket, remember? Oh, and let’s not talk about her education credentials – particularly since you lied about getting a doctorate degree from Oxford, and you had to amend your original phony bio (now it simply says he “obtained his Doctor of Ministry in 2005” – no mention of the school that he got it from). Go to his tacky and seeker-sensitive website and click the “about us” link (and mute your PC so you don’t have to hear his voice). I won’t call prince pimp Jamal a degenerate liar, but I will say that he lied many times…

Alright – I’m starting to get ill, so let’s get to the crescendo, shall we?:

…even when if you’re from the ghetto and get a degree they’ll still put up somebody from a trailer park and say  there’s somebody who is better than you

Wow. This idiot can’t get over the fact that Barack“new jesus” isn’t running against Sarah “Pollen” – he keeps comparing her to “new jesus”. Then he calls her (essentially) “trailer park trash”?. Now if we heard evangelicals calling Barack“new jesus” a nigger from the pulpit then we would all have a collective “poop fit”.

I’m not saying that it’s not the same sentiment shared by our “brothers from another mother”, but this degenerate continues to show his disdain for the holy bookboard and throws his arms around a man who supports abortion, homosexual legal unions, a government welfare state, and ecumenicism.

Well, what else do you expect from a man who couldn’t exegete his way out of a torn wet paper bag..sound biblical doctrine?

Think prince pimp Jamal’s words aren’t resonating with the “great unwashed”? Well, look at some of the comments on the youtube page that houses this video:

  • All Praises Due to ALLAH
We should all be concerned about our future because we will have to spend the rest of our lives there
This man speaks nothing but the truth may ALLAH be pleased with him. Vote for change Obama for president. Check out NAS new CD powerful
  • Awesome message and it’s all true, Pastor Bryant is a man of God and will tell the truth at all times. I have followed his ministry on TV.
  • You may not be hearing form the Pastors you mentioned because they feel they should not use their pulpit as a platform for political endorsements which pastors should not be doing. There is no doubt where this pastor stands. He is using his pulpit as a political forum. However, I agree with everything this young man has said.
  • This is what is known as “speaking truth to power”. All of the prophets in the bible did it………JESUS did it. But we are so divided in this country that we would rather watch the US be destroyed by the likes of McCain, Bush Cheney, Rumsfeld, and Karl Rove! People are losing jobs, homes, health care, but we are clinging to old racial hatreds. What the pastor left out is that Palin and her husband support groups that want Alaska to leave(secede) from the USA.
  • This is awesome! I pray God continues to give our African American Community Revelation it is time for a CHANGE. Let us get out and vote in November.

Oh well, another stop along the road to the ascension of Barack“new jesus” to his rigthful throne.

By the way – I used Independent Conservative’s extensive coverage of prince pimp Jamal because his old posts quote (and link directly to) the original articles in the Baltimore Sun. Curiously, those links don’t work anymore and you can only find one story on pimp Jamal in the paper’s online archives (about his divorce).

God Owes You Nothing!

As I’ve stated in a previous post, Paul warned us in Galatians 1:6-8 that others will try to turn us away from the message of Christ and the Cross by persuading us to subscribe to a different gospel (or what some bible translations call “another gospel”).

Jamal Bryant (the pimp of Baltimore) gave us a classic illustration of this butchering the Gospel for personal justification.

The primary reason that pulpit pimps are allowed to twist scripture and doctrine is simply because we don’t read God’s Word as diligently as we should.

If we are reading it, then we’re not studying it.

If we are studying it, we’re negating it’s truths for the artful prose of an eloquent pimp who completely distorts it until we find ourselves regurgitating the garbage we’ve been fed.

As I state continuously, in the past, I was guilty of being persuaded by a charismatic pimp (and his “spiritual daddy”) so much so that I would doubt God Himself if my pimps told me to.

By the Grace of God, the scales fell from my eyes and I’m having to re-learn the Word of God for myself.

One of the tenants of the bible that I was “taught” was that God abdicated His Dominion on the earth when He created Adam and Eve.

Essentially, my pimps (and every other word of faith or prosperity butcher in the market today) teach that God CAN’T operate in the “earth realm” unless we give Him permission to.

Instead of us being puppets of God, He’s supposed to be our puppet.

That, my friends, is what we call “heresy”.

Andre Landers (the pimp of Hampton, GA) has even gone so far as to say that it is “illegal” for God to do anything in the earth – except through His created.

He actually said that “God will not break his own rules. He can’t move until we release Him to”.

I heard this with my very own ears – repeatedly.

It didn’t help that I.V. Hilliard (the pimp of Houston) came to Andre’s church last year to give him more ammunition in spouting this heresy. Old I.V. said that God’s Will is NOT automatic – we have to “release” God’s Will in our lives.

Again, I was there. I heard it with my own ears, and scratched my head in wonder.

I’m already going to take a page and a half to finish this post, so I won’t address this stupidity – you’re welcome to reply if you’re familiar with this insane declaration as well.

Even though Landers is ignorantly spouting the same inane comments that he learned from Eddie Long (his “spiritual father” and the pimp of Lithonia, GA), it’s still a VERY DANGEROUS doctrine that many gullible Christians (both mature and new to the faith) are subscribing to.

Allow me to attempt to deconstruct the argument:

  • The pimps use Genesis 1:26 as “proof” that God gave His authority over the earth to man. The crux of this argument gives them the “revelation” that God CAN’T reign on the earth – He HAS to use men to do it, especially since He “gave us rule (or dominion) over everything else”.

I’ll let Isaiah’s words debunk this idiocy:

16You turn things around!
Shall the potter be considered as equal with the clay,
   That (A)what is made would say to its maker, “He did not make me”;
Or what is formed say to him who formed it, “He has no understanding”? (Isaiah 29:16

How stupid would I look if I opened my refrigerator door and asked my water pitcher for permission to pour myself a glass of water? It’s just as ridiculous to think that our Holy and Sovereign God, The Maker of Heaven & Earth would keep His (proverbial) hands in His pockets until we “activate Him” in the earth!

I don’t know about you, but my life (apart from Christ) was a HOT MESS. All these years later, even on my holiest days, I’m chasing after God hoping to stay close enough not to operate in my own flesh.

Why would the great I AM (Exodus 3:14) reserve His power – only to be “dispatched” at my beck and call?

It doesn’t make any sense.

I’m no apologetic, theologian, or divinity student, so I’ll let others debate the error in my brief attempt at exegesis.

If you’d like to be “deeper” and more “theologically sound” than I am, and condemn my “weak” argument then go ahead, be my guest – and do me a favor by leaving your homiletic exposition in the “comments” section so that other scholars can participate as well.

The bottom line is this: God is God, and He doesn’t owe you or I anything.

“I’m Still The Man!”

In Galatians 1:7 (NLT), Paul states that “…there are some who trouble you and want to pervert the gospel of Christ”. Of course, your next question may be “why would someone want to deliberately pervert or twist the Gospel?” The answer is simply this: for selfish gain.

Many of the false teachers of today have created a commodity from the Gospel – they use it to attain wealth (from tithes, offerings, love offerings, first fruits, etc.). Once the false teachers begin to gain a steady and lucrative income from you, you cease to be a parishioner and you now become revenue stream (or a “giving unit” as described in the Finance Office of your church).

The videos below are an egregious example of a false teaching perpetrated by Dr. Jamal Bryant – Senior Pastor of Empowerment Temple AME church in Baltimore, MD. Bryant has twisted the gospel for some time, but most folks ignored it because he’s young, charismatic, and charming.

Bryant and his wife are divorcing – his wife alleges that he fathered a child out of wedlock (with a member of his congregation). I won’t turn this site into a supermarket tabloid, so visit the Baltimore Sun newspaper to learn more of the official story

Anyway, Bryant took to the pulpit of his church a few weeks ago to address (or not address) the issue that his congregation had been whispering about for some time. Does he admit his wrong and repent? Does he ask for forgiveness and seek godly counsel? Well, view the videos below (in order) and tell me what you hear:

So let me get this straight – Bryant uses the story of Nathan confronting David about Bathsheba (2 Samuel 12:1-24, NLT) to justify that he is “still the man”? Interestingly, he started with verse 7, and didn’t even bother to present the Gospel in its proper context. How low can you go? At least David had the decency to confess that he had sinned before the Lord (2 Samuel 12:13) – did you hear Bryant confess and repent to the people he’s been entrusted to lead? He then distorts Psalm 51:10-13 (NLT).

Again, this division of Psalm is David asking God to create a clean heart in him – because of his sin with Bathsheba. If you read the chapter in its entirety, you’ll see that David recognizes his rebellion (verse 3), and admits that he sinned against God – and that God’s punishment is just (verse 4).

Finally, at the end of Part 4, Bryant’s “armor bearer” twists the knife a final time by distorting the account of Christ reading in the Temple in Luke 4:20 (NKJV). An exploration of the entire account, however tells the full story in context:

16 So He came to Nazareth, where He had been brought up. And as His custom was, He went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and stood up to read. 17 And He was handed the book of the prophet Isaiah. And when He had opened the book, He found the place where it was written:

The Spirit of the LORD is upon Me,
Because He has anointed Me
To preach the gospel to the poor;
He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted,
To proclaim liberty to the captives
And recovery of sight to the blind,
To set at liberty those who are oppressed;
19 To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD.”

20 Then He closed the book, and gave it back to the attendant and sat down. And the eyes of all who were in the synagogue were fixed on Him. 21 And He began to say to them, “Today this Scripture is fulfilled in your hearing.” 22 So all bore witness to Him, and marveled at the gracious words which proceeded out of His mouth. And they said, “Is this not Joseph’s?” Luke 4:16-20 NKJV)

OK, so let me get this straight – Jesus’ declaration that He is the Messiah that Isaiah foretold of is equivalent to Bryant’s tantrum and ending his “sermon” by slamming his bible closed and walking away in a huff?

Got it.

The saddest part about this whole affair (pardon the pun) is the reaction of his congregation. What if he admitted (or not admitted) to murdering an innocent person – would they do cartwheels and throw money at his feet?

This is yet another example of the need for prayer in the Body of Christ. Men and women are being imprisoned while trying to spread the Gospel in hostile territory, and this clown is huffing and puffing because his revenue stream is being threatened?

We need to pray…

Happy New Year…

I’m grateful to God to be able to look back on another year.

This blog has been in existence since February 2008, and more than 460,000 visits later I’m thankful that God has sent you here to comment, criticize, to be enlightened, to be angered, and to be informed.

Most of all, I thank God for allowing me to continue to speak (or write) His truth.

I’m not particularly nostalgic, nor do I make new year resolutions, so I wish you all Godspeed in 2011 – and God’s best for your lives according to His Will and good pleasure for you.

So (as has been the “tradition” for the past few years) here are the top 20 articles viewed on the blog for 2010:

Let’s Do It Again…

Well, God through His infinite wisdom (and through the Shed Blood of His Son) saw fit to allow me to see another year – and I am eternally grateful.

Subsequently, God has ordained that this blog continue to expose His enemies and draw all men to Him through His Son, and I am humbled that he would use a wretched man like me to labor on His behalf.

I’d love to be as wistful and deep as I was last year, but I used up all my pretty words – so I’ll simply draw your attention to the top 25 articles read on the blog this year (in their respective order):

For 2010, I will be just as indignant with false teachers and their pimpistries, but I will not be incendiary just for show. I will write as the Lord allows and only what He allows.

I pledge to piss off more comfortable Christian’s for the sake of getting them to read the Word of God for themselves.

I will stoke the anger of pimp and wolve apologists even more, hopefully prompting more death threats than I got in 2009.

I will go even further into the Word (for my own study and in articles that I will write) to exalt the Word of God even higher than I did in 2009 (providing even more antidote to the false gospel that permeates the airwaves today).

I will  not entertain those who attempt to use this blog to spread their false and viscous distortions of God’s Word…there are plenty of bootlicker blogs that will let you fawn all over the pimps de jour, so go visit them instead.

I will continue to wave the Blood-stained banner of Christ. Period.

So, let’s do it again folks…

Erasing The Consequences of Sin?

erasing mistakes

Like many of you, I have often heard pastors say “I wouldn’t want to follow anybody who hasn’t been through something!”

The statement is intended to be a prerequisite to (and for some, a badge of honor in) ministry because of the presumption that the leader will appear to be more “human” to their followers if they exhibit culpability. Certainly God uses imperfect people (Moses, Noah, David, Paul, you, me…) to exercise His will in the earth, but one cannot expect to wallow in sin and expect to “pick up where they left off” when they have been restored.

I recently read an interesting article by John MacArthur:

Should Fallen Pastors Be Restored

Gross sin among Christian leaders is a signal that something is seriously wrong with the church. But an even greater problem is the lowering of standards to accommodate a leader’s sin. That the church is so eager to bring these men back into leadership is a symptom of rottenness at the core.

Some have claimed that a leader’s failure makes him more effective in shepherding fallen people. That is ludicrous. Should we drag the bottom of sin’s cesspool for the most heinous sinners to lead the church? Are they better able to understand the sinner? Certainly not! Our pattern for ministry is the sinless Son of God. The church is to be like Him and her leaders are to be our models of Christlikeness.

We must recognize that leadership in the church cannot be regarded lightly. The foremost requirement of a church leader is that he be above reproach (1 Timothy 3:2, 10; Titus 1:7). That is a difficult prerequisite, and not everyone can meet it.

Neither John MacArthur nor the bible is suggesting that you can’t be restored from sin – that premise is the very core of the Gospel message. There should be a realism, however, in placing people back in areas of responsibility after they have shown ill-judgement in leadership.

This is one of the (many) reasons that I am continually irked by Jamal “The Prince Pimp of Baltimore” Bryant. Bryant is a notorious false teacher who has lied about his education credentials, marital fidelity, and his seemingly insatiable sexual appetite (click this link for an overview of his antics). When forced last year to admit an adulterous affair with a young woman in his congregation (suspected to be in her late teens) resulting in the birth of a child, Bryant tried to excuse his behavior by comparing himself to David and Bathsheba. He received little-to-no “counseling” and never relinquished the reigns of his church club.

Should Bryant be forgiven? Certainly if he repents before the Lord (and his family) and seeks to right the wrongs he’s made. Should he have remained in leadership at his club? Certainly not – especially since he probably would’ve removed a Deacon or Minister guilty of similar transgressions if pressed to do so.

MacArthur sums up his article by saying:

What should you do in the current crisis? Pray for your church’s leaders. Keep them accountable. Encourage them. Let them know you are following their godly example. Understand that they are not perfect, but continue nonetheless to call them to the highest level of godliness and purity. The church must have leaders who are genuinely above reproach. Anything less is an abomination.

We must continue to hold our Pastors and leaders to a standard parallel to the charge they have in preaching and teaching the glorious Gospel. Anything less brings reproach upon the Name of the Lord. Are they perfect? No Should we just put them back behind the bookboard no matter what they’ve done? I don’t think so.

A Pimp Dispenses Relationship Advice?

Now that he’s reconciled with his wife, it appears that Jamal “The Prince Pimp of Baltimore” Bryant is dispensing sex advice to the men of his church.

Jamal hosted a “bible study” for the men of his church entitled “How To Love A Black Man” – and he was assisted by a woman who is a New York Times Best Selling Author by the name of “Zane”. What, you’ve never heard of Zane before? Well, Zane writes very graphic and very detailed erotic literature (I linked to wikipedia because I can’t link to her website – without putting a parental disclaimer in place) – and she produces a softcore porn show on Cinemax.

Interestingly, you can’t find many details about this event – although you can see the details of all of the other “Men’s Month” events on the website. Pimp Jamal has been taking some flack for having a lady who writes dirty books address the men of his congregation so maybe he tried to downplay Zane’s participation.

Anyway, I find it odd that a man with so many sexual demons found it necessary to host a “bible study” with a woman who writes smut. If you recall, Jamal is an adulterer and a “baby daddy” to infants outside of his marriage who (allegedly) likes girls in their late teens.

Here’s an official description of Pimp Jamal’s series – and I just had to emphasize interesting notes in bold:

A woman doesn’t need to work harder to please a man because every woman has what it takes to get the love of any man… And there is nothing else better than a BLACK MAN AND WOMAN IN LOVE. The problem lies in how to love him, keep him and understand him.

The role of a woman who is connected to a man of destiny is to condition and prepare him for his opportunity. Be sensitive to his dreams, and help him shine without minimizing him even though you make more money. Invest in making him look good.

When a Black Man captures the heart of a lover, he longs for pleasure not pressure. He was never conditioned for chaos, conflict or confrontation. Dr. Bryant delivers effective relationship advice with wit on how to pamper, feed, and love your man. Discover how you can condition your man and freely check him; assist him without him feeling disrespected and demeaned.

Every woman has near limitless power to give and get the very best spiritually, physically, mentally, and emotionally in a relationship with a Black Man.

Are you kidding me? Is this idiot essentially trying to compete with Iceberg Slim in telling women how to keep dogs like him around them?

Wow – maybe if someone had told Mrs. Pimp of Baltimore of her responsibilities in “satisfying and nurturing” Jamal, then he wouldn’t feel the need to seek “comfort” outside of his marriage with young girls in his congregation.

I’m sure there were men at this “bible study” who were earnestly seeking the Lord  – yet they found themselves being “taught” by a pimp and a Jezebel:

1 Peter 2:11-12 (New American Standard Bible)

11(A)Beloved, (B)I urge you as (C)aliens and strangers to abstain from (D)fleshly lusts which wage (E)war against the soul.

12(F)Keep your behavior excellent among the Gentiles, so that in the thing in which they (G)slander you as evildoers, they may because of your good deeds, as they observe them, (H)glorify God (I)in the day of [a]visitation.

Could somebody get close enough to Pimp Jamal to remind him of what he’s supposed to be doing as a preacher.

Oh, and tell him to go sit down somewhere until he can learn how to preach the Word and not present his fleshly philosophical garbage.

We Are Simply Disciples Of Jesus Christ

No matter how passionate people get about the presidential election (whether you’re arguing about it at work, or your pastor is pushing Obama or McCain down your throats from their pulpits), saints have to remember that we are not Republicans, Democrats, Liberal, or Conservative – we are disciples of Jesus Christ:

Tempted by Politics

Why many pastors want to, but shouldn’t, endorse candidates.

Mark Galli | posted 10/02/2008 09:05AM – Christianity Today

Every pastor in America is just dying to tell their congregations how to vote. It happens every election season, but particularly during the presidential quadrennial. This yearning to lobby one’s flock doesn’t surprise me — it tempted me when I was a pastor.

Pastors are driven by a righteous desire to shape not just church members but also their communities according to biblical standards of justice and mercy.

But these same pastors often hanker to be relevant — and this is nothing but the Devil’s third temptation of Jesus. When chatter about candidates and platforms fills the airwaves, when everyone pontificates about the last debate or recent TV appearance, you can seem out of touch with reality or too timid if you don’t join in the national conversation and take a public stand. Who wants to go to a church led by an irrelevant coward?

These pastors — and congregations that are egging them on — don’t realize that in endorsing political candidates or platforms, they are selling their inheritance for a mess of pottage.

Click the title to read the article in it’s entirety (and in context) – it’s a great read. The closing paragraph of the article hits the nail squarely on the head:

No, the Christian preacher has the unparalleled opportunity to act as the only sane person in a nation mad for power, the only voice in an ephemeral season filled with lies and half-lies to speak abiding truths — that elections (even “the most important in a generation”) come and go, that princes (even “the most gifted in a lifetime”) appear and pass away, that nations (even “the greatest in history”) rise and fall.

And that something greater remains after the first Tuesday in November.

Maybe you should print this article out and put it in the collection plate when your pastor starts lobbying for “God’s” (i.e. his) favorite candidate…

Sarah Palin And The Pulpit

***hat tip my brother Keith over at In Submission To Sovereignty for locating this video – I’ve been looking for it for weeks!***

I have already expressed my personal opinions about the presidential candidacies of both Barack Obama and John McCain – and continually affirmed that I’m not voting for either of them.

I’ve also expressed my personal allegiance to the Word of God in affirming that women should not pastor churches.

The video below is a culmination of both of these controversial stances that I have taken – and succinctly detailed by Dr. Voddie Baucham, one of my newest favorite expository preachers. Dr. Baucham was interviewed recently on CNN discussing how evangelicals have “fallen in love” with Sarah Palin – and how that coincides with women in leadership roles (interview starts at the 1 minute mark):

Voddie Bauchman and Sarah Palin

Did you catch Dr. Baucham’s quote – the one that should be nailed to the door of every Christian church in the world?:

We are about the Gospel. The culture doesn’t dictate truth, the Gospel dictates truth. My job is not to be a political pundit or a political activist – my job is to be a pastor, and proclaim the truth of the Gospel as clearly as I can.

Amen, Amen, Amen!!! Voddie should go on tour and make that very simple yet profound statement to every pastor who is advocating for a political candidate from the pulpit – be it Obama or McCain.

Sarah Palin is winning over “evangelicals” because McCain, Palin, and the Republicans have successfully painted Barack Obama as the Devil incarnate (to counter the Democrats deification of him). The CNN commentator is clearly trying to use Sarah Palin’s ascension as validation for women pastoring (or preaching, as she says) – the premise of the story (and she alludes to it throughout her interview) is that evangelicals find Sarah Palin appealing based on her “faith” (more on that in another post), yet these same evangelicals “don’t allow women to preach”.

Of course, it’s not the “evangelicals” that don’t allow women to preach in their churches – it’s the Word of God, but why let a little thing like God’s truth get in the way of a good “cultural” story, right?

Anyway, Dr. Bauchman masterfully exegetes scripture to combat that (and other) defenses throughout the interview.

Thank God through Jesus Christ that there are TRUE men of God who aren’t afraid to stand on His Word – and His Word alone.

“…We Can Certainly Tell You What To Do In The Voting Booth…”

Whatever happened to actually preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ from behind the “sacred desk”? Instead of an expository message about God’s grace and mercy, the gift of salvation, eternal life through Christ, and repentance of sin, many congregations are subjected to blatant political hack jobs and personal attacks/endorsements from the pulpit

Oh well, the saga continues…

Endorsing from the Pulpit

Pastors launch challenge of IRS rules on endorsements.

Click the link to read the article in it’s entirety (and in context) to learn about how some pastors (and priests and rabbi’s) plan on challenging IRS rules about political endorsements in houses of worship.

So this is how John McCain stirs up his “base” (and by “base”, I mean the Christian conservatives that he’s pretending to be like and hide his disdain for them in order for them to vote him into office) ?

Now that Obama’s poll numbers are starting to pull away, McCain’s forces are eager to whip up “the base” so that he can at least stay close to stem the tide of “the ascension”.

None of this political grandstanding, endorsements, and foolishness should be orchestrated from the pulpit of the church assembly. Sure, pastors should encourage their members to vote and participate in their civic responsibilities – but they shouldn’t use the pulpit as another defacto “campaign stop” for a candidate, Democrat or Republican.

God has surely instituted government (Proverbs 8:15-16; Romans 13), and Jesus affirmed governments order and authority in particular matters (Matthew 22:15-22). Likewise, pastors should encourage their members to be aware of the issues and vote accordingly.

But pastors should not tell their members to vote for Obama or McCain – or anyone else.

I guess some pastors are so used to telling you where to put your money (in their pockets), that they feel that you should also be told who to vote for.

So pastors: discuss the issues, apply biblical doctrine to them, and let the sheep make up their own minds.
