The Cursing Preacher and the $900,000 “Donation”

deron cloud

I read an article in yesterday’s Washington Post about a “pastor” I had the displeasure of meeting several years ago – which brought to my remembrance a particularly disturbing display of filth in the “pulpit”.

The man pictured above is Deron Cloud, Pastor of “The Soul Factory” – a hybrid church/performance theater organization based in Maryland. The church has a satellite location here in Metro Atlanta, and (not surprisingly), Cloud is yet another infamous “spiritual son” of legendary Alpha Pimp Eddie Long (who is reproducing bastard “spiritual” children across the globe). Back in 2005, Cloud was a guest speaker at a Men’s Conference that Eddie Long hosted in suburban Charlotte, NC. Eddie introduced Cloud as his “gangster son in the Lord”, and warned that Cloud was very direct in his delivery but he was going to say things that we needed to hear.

Cloud walked into the auditorium to thunderous applause (thank God it wasn’t at a church building), and with 4-6 burly bodyguards in tow. Before he spoke, he showed a video presentation depicting the plague of fatherless children in the Black community. Once the video ended, Cloud LITERALLY started cursing like a drunken sailor at the over 2,500 men in attendance. He lamented how men (even Christian men) neglect their own children, and he used words like “motherf*****s, bulls**t, f**k” and more!

We were all stunned into complete silence – you could literally hear an ant breath in the place.

Cloud went on to say how much he loved “Eddie cause he’s a real n****r. That’s a hard motherf****r!” He went on and on about how “Eddie ain’t no punk b***h like so many other n*****s in the pulpit today!”. Then Cloud starts calling “n*****s” to the altar for “deliverance” (thus, the burly bodyguards in case someone was offended by his vile language directed at Eddie Long). After the 1.5 hour verbal assault, Eddie comes back to the mic. Instead of denouncing the vile act we just saw, Eddie essentially blessed the display – and summons an altar call where he does his “if you need a daddy, I will be your daddy” line.

Even though my pimp (at the time) cautioned those of us who came with him to “swallow the fish and spit out the bones”, I was still stunned that such a vile display would be allowed to take place – or continue. Of course, I was a brain-dead drone slave to the false gospel and my pimp, so I didn’t walk out. In fact, NO ONE walked out. Not surprisingly, Cloud instructed the media team to stop recording before his presentation. You can, however, search for him on YouTube to see some of his interesting soliloquies on various topics (and if you’ve ever seen Cloud in rare form live, you can corroborate what I’ve seen and heard with my own eyes).

So here’s the point of this post – it appears that “pastor” Cloud is being sued by two of his former congregants, who allege they “loaned” Cloud almost $900,000 to start the Atlanta branch of his church. Of course, Cloud calls it a “donation”:

Md. couple file suit against church, saying they were swindled

Two former churchgoers say they were swindled out of a small fortune by the leaders of the Soul Factory, a large African American church in Prince George’s County — accusations the church denies.

In a lawsuit filed against the church, the married couple, Jose and Yvette Strickland, say they lent nearly $900,000 under a verbal agreement to the Soul Factory so that it could open a satellite church in Atlanta. The church says the money was a gift.

“It was not a loan; it was a donation,” said Timothy Obitts, a lawyer hired by the church. He said the church is in the process of filing a motion to dismiss the lawsuit.

The article goes on to confirm (yet again) that pulpit pimps seek to groom their followers by treating them like VIP’s and “special members” in order to pick their pockets:

According to the Stricklands, they began regularly attending the Soul Factory in 2000. In 2005, the church’s founder and pastor, Deron Cloud, began courting Jose Strickland’s financial help, the couple said, by inviting him to Wizards basketball games, on trips to Las Vegas and other activities and introducing him to top church leaders.

In 2006, the Stricklands say, Cloud asked Jose for $1.5 million to help open a satellite church in Atlanta. A few weeks later, Strickland, Cloud and other church leaders discussed financing the Atlanta church while in a private booth at a professional fight in Atlantic City, the couple said.

Months later, according to the lawsuit, Strickland gave the church $886,500, which Jose, a mortgage banker, and Yvette, a real estate agent, said they raised by mortgaging several properties they owned to a private lender.

The couple acknowledges that Cloud made nine payments to repay the “donation”, but stopped several years ago (read the article in entirety). It appears that the Strickland’s believed the “pay to play” gospel that so many hirelings are selling to the church today, and they felt some obligation to “build God a house…”

Overall, this is another example of how bereft the church is of sound doctrine today.

Lord have mercy…

My mouth is still open!!! Due to the worldliness in the church; many have turned the purity of the gospel into entertainment, fleshly appetites as many are serving the Lord not in the spirit but in the flesh. How can you preacher the Word and curse in the same breath? And how can a man of gawd not denounce this? Where is the reverence of God?

2 Peter 2:1 (NKJV)- But there were also false prophets among the people, even as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Lord who bought them, and bring on themselves swift destruction.

Act 17:11 (NKJV) These were more fair-minded than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness, and searched the Scriptures daily to find out whether these things were so

That’s the problem with us today; we do not read the Word for ourselves. We think that what the man of gawd says as gospel.

Mark 13:22-23 (NKJV) – 22 For false christs and false prophets will rise and show signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect. 23 But take heed; see, I have told you all things beforehand.

Todays’ church just simply adds Jesus’ name to their present shenanigans and then are ignorant enough to think that sanctifies what they do. How in the world (exactly so) does this man and his so-called bishop present this as a biblical example of ministry or service to GOD? A clear demonstration of the love for the world. At the very least wouldn’t Long reject being called a mother——? sigh

Who is coming to the altar for prayer after that, I wonder? I suppose many did.

I clicked on the link to the Soul Factory website. Cloud is listed as “founder and visionary leader” of the Soul Factory. Both the Maryland and Stone Mountain, GA locations are listed as theaters. So, it appears the Stricklands invested in a theater, not a church building.

Where did this guy get the “pastor” title? There is nothing on his site to indicate a Christian affiliation – spiritual, inspirational or otherwise.

So Long exposed his sheeple to some “playwright” to be cussed out and similarly verbally abused. It is quite telling about Long that you say he offers himself up (during the altar call) to “father” his male following.

You call him a “pimp” – I also call him a “pied piper” – calling his male flock to himself, not to God and leading seeking and searching men down the path of destruction.

Thanks to the Strickland I got me $10 free gas-you heard me i did not stutter Cloud came to Decatur gave cars free gas, waffles and chicken; in addition, he gave out two free tickets to his theater. I went the Sunday night amazed by the hallway of videos. My fellow brethren and I grabbed our seats and the presentation for starters was oh so captivating-the abuse he suffered from his father and the love of his wife who put him in his place at first oh what attention grabbing-now I got your attention!!! he started cussing and going on -a preacher in a storefront close by warned us to never go back there again cause he heard about Baltimore. Big ups to that short preacher man in the storefront who warned us. Believe me I aint went back yo.

I attended one of his plays back when his “church” was called Church of the Lord’s Disciples and I took several of my youth group thinking that it would be a nice outing.

I was wrong. I almost fell over when I heard cursing and other vile speech… What had I exposed my youth group’s young ears to?! They hear enough filth at school etc, they didn’t need to be exposed to this in a ‘church’.

I was so disappointed and continue to be. And have never gone back. They may have changed their name but apparently not their stripes.

I can’t stand racists or drug addicts or killers; but i will tell you that i can’t stand wolves in sheep’s clothing the most. The patience of God is astounding to me.

my pastor isnt a pimp. evrything he says the church will do with the money, we do. talk about us feeding the hungry, talk about the father daughter balls, talk about the life changing seminars, talk aboutthe god inspired plays.what about how he(through GOD) helped get families back in order? talk about that as christians we have to stop judging. you people are on the outside looking in, i know my life is blessed because of soul factory, if you knew me then you would know. but you people dont have to like what we do, i know life changes at the factory, we do what god tells us. we need no approval from super religious, slave minded, over zealous, taking scriptures out of context, “christians”. now let us do what we do and watch lives be changed. SOLDIERS( Sold Out Living Delivered In Everlaastin Righteous Service) are used to opposition because we are different, we are the UNCHURCH BABY! so um ya’ll share that.
so continue to sit at your computer with you judgmental thoughts and non changing life.
ps. you guys should keep your mouths off him!

    • 33 speaking truth January 4, 2010 at 9:25 am

      Call me…,

As usual, the pimp defenders come by to defend their pimps with NO SOUND BIBLICAL DOCTRINE…just platitudes about how the pimp “changed my life” and “does good work”. Even though you accuse us of “taking scripture out of context”, I guess your defense is to not use scripture at all.

Hear (or read) me clearly – even pimps in my old neighborhood passed out turkeys and toys during the holidays – and they still sold women for a living! Just because your pimp does a few good things a year, he still curses people out (for pay) and extorts your money through tithes, offerings, love offerings, and “special donations” – just like a bona fide street pimp. I remind you that a little leaven…(1 Corinthians 5, just incase you’re interested in reading God’s Word in context for yourself).

Instead of parroting a typical cultic reply (“We are soldiers, baby”), you’d do well to repent of your allegiance to a false teaching foul-mouthed pimp and return to the TRUE and living God. Otherwise, the Lord’s will be done concerning you.

GET ON OUR LEVEL!!!!!!!!!!!! or shut up!!!! look at whatyou are doing, my spiritual dad hasnot made us, powerless, bible thumping religios fools, we call on the name and know how to go to GOD! not blog about rumors i feel bad about even responding to this, im done . seriously. write what you want

        • 35 speaking truth January 5, 2010 at 2:06 pm

OK call me… – although escapeetoo has succinctly shut you down, I’ll address both of your most recent (and according to you, final) comments – since you’re attempting to reply to me. I would normally ignore your ignorance but perhaps this is a teaching lessons for other like-minded defenders who will take the road you obviously veered off of.

we have been taught not to go back and forth with people like yourself

As with most members of a cult, you are quite skilled in defendiing the cult leader, but poorly inept at defending the doctrine of your cult. Subsequently, you are poorly inept in defending the Gospel of Jesus Christ (which you didn’t intend to do anyway, so I suppose you’ve succeeded in that effort). Perhaps next time your leader can give you a few bible verses to memorize so it at least appears you have a casual relationship with Christ.

i am not going to use my god’s word to argue with you, now if you want a bible study then yeah holla at me until then.

Oh, but I am “holla’ing” at you for some bible study – which is why I asked you to defend your foul-mouthed money grubbing pimp WITH SCRIPTURE IN CONTEXT! I (and anyone else who can form complete sentences) can see that you chose to ignore my admonition and come back to engage in mental gymnastics instead. Please direct me (and others) to the Word of God where we are commanded to steal money from others IN ANY FORM – or use curse words to show forth God’s glory? And don’t try to deny that your pimp has a foul-mouth because I (and others who comment here) have seen and heard him spew garbage from his pie-hole in person…and he’s even cursing in the video found above!

GET ON OUR LEVEL!!!!!!!!!!!! or shut up!!!! look at whatyou are doing, my spiritual dad hasnot made us, powerless, bible thumping religios fools, we call on the name and know how to go to GOD!

There you go confirming your cultic allegiance, Call me…. Your “spiritual dad” is indeed a pimp, and he is playing his role true to form (with your help). He has successfully fed the “spiritual covering” line to you and your ilk hook, line, & sinker (successfully following the pattern of other pimps he idolizes like Long and Jakes). As a result, he demands submission from lemmings like you who will fight for his honor – all the while butchering (or ignoring) the honor of Christ Himself!

…not blog about rumors i feel bad about even responding to this, im done . seriously. write what you want

What exactely is the “rumor” I’m talking about, Call me…? It is an established fact that your pimp has a foul-mouthed (confirmed by me, several other witnesses, and the video above) – and that he took money from a couple in his congregation (in addition to all of the theft by taking in tithes, love offerings et al). The only unsubstantiated rumors mentioned where your declarations that your foul-mouthed pimp is actually a man of God who should be admired.

You are in fact done, Call me… – and I believe our conversation has run it’s course. This is not a matter of me writing “what I want” – it’s a matter of steering people away from the kind of hireling that you are gleefully submitted to. You’re welcome to (attempt) to respond yet again, but I suggest you instead take the time to seriously study the Word of God and pray for direction and the strength to repent of your allegiance to a foul-mouthed pimp. I’m living proof that God can rescue His own from the clutches of false teaching wolves.

I will pray the Lord’s will be done concerning you.

Good reply ST, my thoughts exactly. Friends of Soul Factory if you would be so inclined please tell us where we can get a entire message of Brother Deron, witout pay and then allow us to see how well he “takes scripture out of context.” Because trust me you guys helping the community is not a concrete reason to go there, admirable but not legite.

    “call me what you want”

You stated that you are taught (By your spiritual daddy) not to “back and forth…” But what did Christ say about contending and defending our Christian Faith?

The classic verse promoting apologetics (the defense of the Christian faith) is found in 1 Peter 3:15, which states that we are to make a defense “for the hope that you have.” The only way to do this effectively is to study the reasons for why we believe what we believe. This will prepare us to “demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ,” as Paul said we should (2 Corinthians 10:5). Paul practiced what he preached; in fact, doing apologetics was his regular activity (Philippians 1:7). He refers to apologetics as an aspect of his mission in the same passage (v.16). He also made apologetics a requirement for church leadership in Titus 1:9. Jude, an apostle of Jesus, wrote that “although I was very eager to write to you about the salvation we share, I felt I had to write and urge you to.

Defending the faith or bantering “back and forth” regarding the word is an ancient practice. Where did the apostles get these ideas? From the Master Himself. Jesus was His own apologetic as He stated time and again that we should believe in Him because of the evidence He provided for what He taught (John 2:23; 10:25; 10:38; 14:29). In fact, the whole Bible is full of miracles specifically being done by God to confirm what He wanted us to believe (Exodus 4:1-8; 1Kings 18:36-39; Acts 2:22-43; Hebrews 2:3-4; 2 Corinthians 12:12). People rightly refuse to believe something without evidence (Hmmm sounds like you “call me what you want”). Since God created humans as rational beings, we should not be surprised when He expects us to live rationally. As Norman Geisler says, “This does not mean there is no room for faith. But God wants us to take a step of faith in the light of evidence, rather than to leap in the dark” (A common practice of you WOF folks).

So if you want us gossiping bloggers to “get on your level” explain to us why we should. And BTW, please support it with God’s Word and NOT your daddy’s word!

I find it interesting beau/jay that you provide 2 different comments under 2 different names, yet you both have the same IP address…curious indeed.

Since Deron Cloud claims to be an elder in church leadership, his business is in fact not his business – it’s God’s business. If you want to support/defend a crooked foul-mouthed “pastor”, then go ahead – just don’t expect others to allow “Deron’s business” to masquerade itself as God’s business.

Should we disclose your business. Beaune doesn’t want to put Your business out there.

    • 45 speaking truth January 26, 2010 at 12:15 pm

I don’t know who you think I am, but I don’t know either of you at all – I don’t reside or spend anytime in Canada. To your point – I was angry when I fell into deception that men like Deron Cloud spin over their followers. As I’ve stated many times on this blog, I was a wholehearted believer AND enforcer of this foolishness. Fortunately for me I responded appropriately when the Lord allowed the veil of deception to be removed from my eyes – and I’ve repented and shined the light of truth on false teachers like Cloud ever since.

I’m still angry that wolves like Cloud still prey on the sheep, but I don’t blog out of anger – I blog out of my love for God’s Word – and this (along with personal evangelism) IS what I do with my life. As such, I have no “business” for you or others to talk about. I’ve never stolen money from a congregation, cheated on my wife with another woman (or man), lied in the name of the Lord, stolen from my employer(s) or otherwise willfully decieved ANYONE. Am I a sinner saved by grace? ABSOLUTELY – and as such I am prone to the same failings as others apart from my repentance in the Blood of Christ.

And since you’re so adament to defend a wolf, let me remind you of the qualifications of eldership, since Cloud claims to be a leader of a congregation (emphasis added):

Titus 1:5-11 (New American Standard Bible)

5 For this reason I left you in Crete, that you would set in order what remains and appoint elders in every city as I directed you,
6 namely, if any man is above reproach, the husband of one wife, having children who believe, not accused of dissipation or rebellion.
7 For the overseer must be above reproach as God’s steward, not self-willed, not quick-tempered, not addicted to wine, not pugnacious, not fond of sordid gain,
8 but hospitable, loving what is good, sensible, just, devout, self-controlled,
9 holding fast the faithful word which is in accordance with the teaching, so that he will be able both to exhort in sound doctrine and to refute those who contradict.

Sounds to me like Cloud is actually more representative of this scripture (emphasis added):

      Titus 1:10-11

10 For there are many rebellious men, empty talkers and deceivers, especially those of the circumcision,
11 who must be silenced because they are upsetting whole families, teaching things they should not teach for the sake of sordid gain.

I don’t have the time or energy to volley back and forth with you – so either accept or reject the truth as the Lord wills.
