First Rotten Fruit

Every year between January and Easter, pulpit pimps begin to lick their chops as they look forward to flogging the sheep into giving to their absolute favorite pyramid scheme of the year – the “First Fruit offering.”

Unlike the tithe scam (where the pimp puts a gun to the back of your head every Sunday and Wednesday by threatening holy wrath upon you and your descendants for “robbing God”), the “First Fruit” scam is a 1 day cash windfall for the pimps. Before I go any further, I invite you to watch two brief videos (courtesy of  spirituallysound) featuring “Pretty” Paula White – the original Florida Gator – pimping with wreckless abandon. These videos are from 2008, but you can surely believe that the same hollow lie is being perpetuated in churches across the country today:

Paula White’s “First Fruit” Scam!

(breathe in…breathe out…breathe in the good…breathe out the bad)

Like Pretty Paula, many pimps want you to give them “your increase” (a day’s salary, a week’s salary, or a month’s salary) so that God will “protect your crops for the remainder of the year” – and they always start off with a poor exegesis of Proverbs 3:9 as justification. However (and, as always) when you read Proverbs 1, 23, 4 and so on, you’ll see that the proverbs are (essentially) the letters of a father to a son extolling the virtue of knowledge, wisdom, insight into his royal court, instructions on relationship and correction. The Proverbs were written as “wisdom literature”, designed to produce meditation on God, and they should be read thoroughly and in context in order to see the deeper truth contained therein.

The Proverbs (in particular) are not “legal guarantees” from God (e.g “honor the Lord with the first fruit…so shall your barns be filled…) – they are written in hyperbolic language, based on the whole truth of the Old Testament. The entire Proverbs (all 31 chapters) are a very interesting read, but they are challenging, particularly because of the nature of wisdom literature (veiled understanding that must be studied thoroughly, hyperbole, etc). Further, the Proverbs are essentially “sayings” as opposed to direct Law given by God to Moses and the children of Israel.

Having said that, let’s start at the very beginning (where the pimps don’t dare tread)…the first fruit offering was initiated in Leviticus:

Leviticus 23:9-14 (New American Standard Bible)

9Then the LORD spoke to Moses, saying,

10“Speak to the sons of Israel and say to them, ‘When you enter the land which I am going to give to you and (A)reap its harvest, then you shall bring in the sheaf of the first fruits of your harvest to the priest.

11‘He shall wave the sheaf before the LORD for you to be accepted; on the day after the sabbath the priest shall wave it.

12‘Now on the day when you wave the sheaf, you shall offer a male lamb one year old without defect for a burnt offering to the LORD.

13‘Its (B)grain offering shall then be two-tenths of an ephah of fine flour mixed with oil, an offering by fire to the LORD for a soothing aroma, with its drink offering, a fourth of a [a]hin of wine.

14‘Until this same day, until you have brought in the offering of your God, (C)you shall eat neither bread nor roasted grain nor new growth. It is to be a perpetual statute throughout your generations in all your dwelling places.

…and further detailed in Deuteronomy:

Deuteronomy 26:1-10 (New American Standard Bible)

1“Then it shall be, when you enter the land which the LORD your God gives you as an inheritance, and you possess it and live in it,

2that you shall take some of (A)the first of all the produce of the ground which you bring in from your land that the LORD your God gives you, and you shall put it in a basket and (B)go to the place where the LORD your God chooses to establish His name.

3“You shall go to the priest who is in office at that time and say to him, ‘I declare this day to the LORD my God that I have entered the land which the LORD swore to our fathers to give us.’

4“Then the priest shall take the basket from your hand and set it down before the altar of the LORD your God.

5“You shall answer and say before the LORD your God, ‘(C)My father was a wandering Aramean, and he went down to Egypt and sojourned there, (D)few in number; but there he became a (E)great, mighty and populous nation.

6‘And the (F)Egyptians treated us harshly and afflicted us, and imposed hard labor on us.

 7‘Then (G)we cried to the LORD, the God of our fathers, and the LORD heard our voice and saw our affliction and our toil and our oppression;

 8(H)and the LORD brought us out of Egypt with a mighty hand and an outstretched arm and with great terror and with signs and wonders;

9and He has brought us to this place and has given us this land, (I)a land flowing with milk and honey.

 10‘Now behold, I have brought the first of the produce of the ground (J)which You, O LORD have given me.’ And you shall set it down before the LORD your God, and worship before the LORD your God;

First fruits are mentioned in the New Testament, but only symbolically; new converts were referred to as “first fruits” in the early Church because they were often the first followers of Christ in their communities (Romans 16:5; 1 Corinthians 16:15). However, Paul and James made it explicitly clear that Christ was a type of first fruit for those of us in the faith (1 Corinthians 15:20; James 1:18).  There is no mention of cash or money in regards to the biblical principle of first fruit (see every reference to “first fruit” or “first fruits” in Nave’s Topical Bible). Under the Law, sacrifices (animal, grain, burnt offerings, etc.) were required by God for the forgiveness of sin and for “covering” or “blessing” (Genesis 3:21; Genesis 4:4-5; Genesis 8:20-21; Genesis 22:10-13; Leviticus 4:35; Leviticus 5:10).

Jesus Christ became the final Passover Lamb when He shed His Reedeming Blood for His elect, rendering these ceremonial sacrifices moot, null, and void (John 1:29; 2 Corinthians 5:21; 1 Timothy 2:5-6). There is no need or reason for ANY CHRISTIAN to “sacrifice” or present “sacrificial offerings” in a mock ceremony. The sad reality is that these hirelings  (who have already spiritually molested you with the tithe, convincing you that God is moved by your money) now tell you that your “crops” need to be “blessed”, otherwise you’ll meet all manner of financial calamity and the “devourer” will wreak havoc over your finances.

“So, passa, bishop, apostle, evangelist Smith…how can I be assured that God is going to make my crops reap a huge harvest this year” you ask? They can barely hide their delight when they reply “You have to give a first fruit offering  – the first and best of your harvest – so that God will cover you for the remainder of the year!”. Next thing you know, the hireling is standing before the congregation in his best ceremonial frock with a huge basket (full of your money), declaring that he’s going to “wave the heave offering (another sacrifice of grain that was rendered moot) over the congregation so that God will be pleased with our sacrifice”.

What you don’t know is that your “special offering” to (essentially) get God off your back is actually a windfall cash payment to your hireling – a payment that he’s been waiting for since he took it from you the previous year. Sure, you may be told that “this offering is going to programs in the church”, and you don’t even question it when those same “programs” require a payment from you if you want to participate in them (sound familiar, lemmings of the Pimp of Hampton’s club?). Your pimps love of cash and material things has created an insatiable lust for stuff that is no longer satisfied by the consumption of even more cash:

Ecclesiastes 5:10-11 (New American Standard Bible)

10(A)He who loves money will not be satisfied with money, nor he who loves abundance with its income. This too is vanity.

11(B)When good things increase, those who consume them increase. So what is the advantage to their owners except to look on?

I know for a fact that the “first fruit offering” goes directly to the pimp as a love offering, so don’t attempt to defend your pimp’s money grab here. And even if the “first fruit offering” was used for “benevolence”, it was taken from you in the guise of a lie because (yet again) your hireling doesn’t trust you to give from your heart (2 Corinthians 9:7) – you must be threatened and cajoled. Further, some churches even move the date of the collection of the “first fruit” during the months of January through April. If this was a mandatory offering (mandated and honored by God), then don’t you think God would clearly say so (in His Word), something like: “My Bishops/Apostles/Pastors/Shepherds et al shall collect a first fruit offering on My behalf on the 3rd Sunday of January”.

Even further, I find it curious that these vipers will put a pistol to your head for (at least) two Old Testament customs (that NEVER EVER EVER APPLIED TO YOU), yet they overlook every other animal sacrifice, (real) grain offering, etc. The next time your pimp wants a “sacrificial first fruit offering”, then throw a New York strip steak or a bushel of oranges on his “altar” – and see what he does then.

Folks, I implore you from the bottom of my heart to flee these lying, wicked, vile, covetous, desperate pulpit pimps and degenerate hustlers. They wouldn’t get within spitting distance of you were it not for their profane lust for your money – that’s why they can dismiss you with no impunity when you remove their hands from your pockets.

Those of you who have paid (or are paying) into these money scams because your pimp has convinced you that God doesn’t even see you unless you have money in your hand, you need to repent of your fleshly desire to gain favor and material things from God. Jesus paid the sacrifice for you already, and God is not a slot machine.

If you truly love the Lord and are earnestly seeking to be transformed into the Image of Christ (Romans 12:1-2), then please get away from these money-grubbing thieves before they cause you to question your faith when you see that you (and them) aren’t prospering as they promised you would.

If you are a hireling that knowingly participates in and perpetuates this first fruit scam (among other parlor tricks) then you still have time to repent before the Lord, renounce your wickedness, and seek restoration through Jesus Christ. Now is the hour, because you do not know what tomorrow holds for you.

Sigh! What amazes me is that “EVERY” year is going to be, “The Year Of Overflow”. But what amazes me more are the dupes that can’t quite figure it out.

Think about it. You know the saying, “Fool me once shame on you. Fool me twice shame on me”. Well, it should be apparent after 20 consecutive, “Year of Overflow” “prophecies” (so-called) that maybe, just maybe you might be getting pimped.

I mean really, how does someone get all excited by the likes of Paula White claiming that 2009 will be the year of overflow when she said the exact same thing for the past 15 years.

    Oh Well!

    • 2 speaking truth February 27, 2009 at 11:40 am

Kyle, every year is a year of “breakthrough and overflow”…for them!.

They keep “walking in overflow” because the lemmings have bought their lies (literally and figuratively), so they keep the pimps in business. Just like any barker on a late-night informercial, these hirelings make more money “showing you how to prosper” than anyone will ever make from actually prospering.

      It’s a grand pyramid scheme.

You know I couldn’t wait for this one…

“The next time your pimp wants a ‘sacrificial first fruit offering’ then throw a New York strip steak or a bushel of oranges on his ‘altar’ — and see what he does then.”

Wow…I might have to try that 🙂 My pastor really never caught on to the whole first fruits SCAM but I remember one time a young lady in our church wanted to give him a first fruits offering and he took it from her but he sorta “banged” it over our heads talking about we wouldn’t understand that level of giving/sacrifice. I think even he knew it was “iffy” so he never really pushed it down our throats. He just left it at we wouldn’t understand.

He always says this though— Your blessing starts at the head. In other words if we bless him (monetarily of course) we will be blessed. That’s where love offerings, anniversaries, birthdays, etc. come in. Well since I’ve been reading more into all of these LIES I have come to an understanding that we can’t pay for blessings. Jesus paid the price already and we didn’t do anything to deserve it. He bought us, we can’t buy him.

I conclude saying what you said, “God is not a slot machine.”

That’s what it all boils down to I think. That’s how we treat him and God knows I repent from that. God bless you ST for this.

Just wait until I climb through the “love offering” phenomenon, young1 [maybe I shouldn’t alert you as to what’s next in the series…you’ll start sending people after me to make me write quicker :-)]

Great post! I have been waiting on this post for nearly a year. Just like you I studied how the Pimp of Hampton aka “Da Club owner of Club Hustle & Flow” twisted scripture to advance his own wealth agenda.

The sheeple that fall for the First Fruit scam just don’t know the truth behind scripture. The 31 chapters of the Book of Proverbs contains nearly 300 topics and ancient Jewish wisdom guidelines ranging from Adultery to Youth exhortation. Pimps pull out want they want to trick you into giving.

Truth be told In the Gospels, the concept of the harvest of First Fruits is used metaphorically and allegorically. In the Gospel of Matthew, Jesus is described as stating that “in the time of harvest” he would instruct the harvesters (i.e., the angels) to gather the “tares”, bind them into bundles, and burn them, but to “gather the wheat into [his] barn” (Matthew 13:30). Some argue that this teaching is about the Last Judgment rather than offering any thanksgiving to a deity, the “tares” being sinners and the “wheat” being the chosen or the righteous.

So if A Pimp wants a First Fruit Offering and wants his subjects to follow THE LAW, Take him the traditional seven agricultural products (wheat, barley, grapes in the form of wine, figs, pomegranates, olives in the form of oil, and dates) documented in the Torah. Taking your Pimp money is not in accordance with the Law! Thank God for Christ! Figs don’t grow well in Georgia.

    • 6 speaking truth February 27, 2009 at 11:45 am

Excellent exegesis, escapee. I was going to dig further into the allegorical language that Jesus used – and their references – but the point was made.

Thank God for Christ! Figs don’t grow well in Georgia.

Well, the Pimp of Hampton is discovering that money doesn’t “grow” to well here in Georgia either 😆

  4. 7 Cop February 27, 2009 at 11:14 am

Why, oh WHY does the first fruit HAVE TO be given to a paticular T.V. ministry? If they really wanted people to give the first fruits to be blessed, they wouldn’t be so conserned with which church recieved the payment (blessing, cash). They would ask that you give to your locale church instead of listing their P.O. box every 5 seconds.

    • 8 speaking truth February 27, 2009 at 11:50 am

The local viper doesn’t want you paying the viper on TV because the local viper has convinced the sheep that he is God’s mouthpiece assigned to their lives, and that they “can’t eat off somebody elses plate when the mand of gawd is feeding you well” as my former hireling, the Pimp of Hampton says.

You’re right – even if you bought into the scam but decided to “sow your first fruit” into the Hosea Williams Feed The Hungry program or the Atlanta Food Bank, then your pimp would hit the roof!

Further proving the desperate actions of a degenerate money-grubbing hustler.

Somebody tell me I heard that video wrong…….

Did I just hear Mike Murdock pronounce a curse on Himself and his ministry if he were not speaking Gospel Truth?

Could this man really be so bibically dumb to believe what he is preaching?

Or has he no fear what-so-ever of the Lord?
When he pronounced that curse upon himself and his ministry it scarred me for him. The Ministry is already cursed. But to call it down upon your own head! WOW!

This is my first comment on this site.

“Or has he no fear what-so-ever of the Lord?”

I think it’s this one. Both Murdock and Paula White and sadly, many others.

      Thanks for the find Kyle.

So Danny Glover is pushing Tahitian Noni juice? Wow – it is absolutely appropriate that he’s slinging juice while sitting next to a lying pimp. The Pimp of Hampton had a Tahitian Noni scam going on at his club a few years ago as well. He formed a group (which is how the pyramid works) so that people could “work under him”. An invitation to the pimps “circle” was considered a high honor. In fact, if you were “marked for greatness”, you’d be approached by a lemming on behalf of the pimp with a veiled plea threat: “you know, passa see’s God’s favor on your life and he recognizes your anointing to do kingdom business. He wants you to join him in a business venture that will bless the kingdom and bring you the prosperity that God wants you to have. All you have to do is sow into his circle and you will be his business partner”.

And of course, he had gullible lemmings tripping all over themselves (while throwing him even more money) to sling juice for him. Oh, and of course he made $ by having people under him, but the juice just wasn’t flying off the shelves, so the lemmings lost money.

      Interesting indeed…

Yeah don’t tell me what’s next ST. I just might have to keep some people posted at your door to make sure you don’t come out ’til you have finished posting all that has been promised 😀 Naw, I’m just playing but still keep it a surprise. It makes me anxious when I know ahead of time. Sooooo now I can’t wait for the love offering post!!!!!

  8. 14 Kristy February 27, 2009 at 5:29 pm

This is an interesting blog. I used to attend a fairly large church in Perth Amboy, NJ. The senior pastor is a typical pimp. He usually begs for first fruits in October, though. He tells the congregation that we will be cursed if we don’t tithe, give offerings, pay on the new building fund and on and on….He tells us that we must tithe on our gross income and not net. Where is that in the bible? It’s amazing how similar these so called pastors are. I finally got fed up and left the church.

WOW!, thanks for posting my videos, it has been a while since i did them….been very busy, just glad the people are finally seeing what these pimps are doing “robbing in the name of the LORD”. BTW, i would love for you to do an article on FAST EDDIE’S “NEW BUSINESS VENTURE”…BRANDNEWBIRTH JEWELRY ….yes he has is own “bling”…..$1000 and up! here’s the website

Jewelry in a weak economy huh? Even if the economhy is strong there is something not right about this.

These posts are excellent in exposing the questionable behavior of these guys. But let me make a challenge to all who are avid readers of these blogs. When are we going to start a revolution? We should plan and strategize to bring the Gospel to those who are hurt and hurting. We should not only reach out and encourage the lost, but those who have been hurt by these people. Our primary goal is to fulfill the Great Commission. How do we share Christ’s love? How do we witness to a broken and dying world? Any suggestions?

      • 21 Kyle February 28, 2009 at 1:30 pm

        LOL@ Ucanwalkonwater,

I clicked on Fast Eddies link and then went to the “Men’s” Jewelry section. Once there I looked at the one dude showing off the New Birth Bling (I think its Eddies Kids?).

But that is not the funny part. Go to the link below and watch the pics of the guy hocking the new birth wares but wait until the 4th or 5th pic (Streaming) where it shows Eddie and 3 other cats.

For a second there I thought Lavert was getting back together for a reunion.

😆 – Those are all of Fast Eddie’s kids (the one on the far right is “Young Dirty”, the prince of gospel “crunk” music) 🙄

You do have a point Kyle – all of the hair grease in that pix does allude to an R&B reunion…

      • 24 speaking truth February 28, 2009 at 8:23 pm

See Pastor Jim’s comment, ucanwalkonwater. First, we need to get people away from these vipers and into their bible’s. We must also influence those around us by modeling Christ for them to see (in love and admonition). Who knows – maybe we need to picket in from of these God forsaken clubs on Sunday’s to sound the alarm…

    • 25 speaking truth February 28, 2009 at 8:29 pm

Thanks for making the vids spirituallysound – I’m happy to participate in the exposing of a pimp. Eddie Long is a marketing genious, and he’s been giving this gaudy jewelry to his ministry sons for the past few years. I would rather he market jewelry than keep lying about the “curse of the non-tither” and the other money games he plays.

If a lemming wants to by his crappy jewelry, then oh well. If someone gives an offering out of fear of eternal punishment, then that’s a problem.

  11. 26 Pastor Jim February 28, 2009 at 2:02 pm

    I sit here slack-jawed.

I can not believe people would fall for this. Oh readers of IST, do not give up hope! Do start a revolution – or reformation – study your Bible! Listen to the John Piper and John MacArthur sermons linked to this site. Join a Christ-centered local church that is faithful to the Scriptures!

There are LOTS of theologically sound, loving and Christ-centered churches in ATL and around the US that are not after your money, but after the Great Commission of our Lord Jesus!

There are many like me who work and pray to start 100s of gospel-centered churches in Atlanta. Just to give you hope, here are our general practices.

Never begged, guilted or scammed for money. We teach what the whole of Scripture says about money in context.
We teach people to get out of debt, give, save and live within their income (as the Bible teaches).
Our church doesn’t pass a plate – there is an offering box by the exit – some do pass a plate but without all the hoopla. Every dollar is accounted for and records published.
Pastors’ families give 10% or more back to the local church out of gratitude. And support missionaries.
Every one in our circle drives a used car, wears no bling, sports regular clothes.

There is hope! God’s church has not ALL be clubbed! Be encouraged! God will judge and discipline His own!

The people at this social club aka: Church Without Walls are
being flim flammed and they do not know it or if they do know it,
they have larcency in their hearts and that is why they continue with this charade by Paula White.
Her doctrine is corrupt and yet those sheep continue to graze their and think they are of the Lord!
What a scam and what a shame! Obviously, solid Holy Spirit lead Bible teaching is not a high requirement at that “church” and less much that the people read on their own what does the Lord require.
They do a tremendous disservice to Acts 17:11…but then again, they want to believe with their itching ears what gibberish Paula White says. They are being fleeced and they do not mind it!
The real church is held up to ridicule because these professing Christians are hungry not for God but for mammon and that is why they stay with this false prophetess.
Any level of discernment would show these people that she is a wolf in sheep’s clothing.
What are they waiting for! Leave…Flee!!
