What’s Going On With The COGIC?

My dear brother in Christ, Pastor DL Foster, has a very interesting discussion brewing over at his blog GCM Watch. Pastor Foster is calling for a class-action lawsuit of the Church of God In Christ(COGIC).

Arguably, sexual perversion is consuming the once powerful denomination from the inside out, and Pastor Foster has been detailing the downward spiral for quite some time now.

Now he’s fed up – and he’s calling the degenerate ministers and bishops on the carpet:

GCM Watch calls for class action lawsuit against COGIC

In the wake of a string of sexual molestation cases perpetrated by Church of God in Christ clergy, GCM Watch is openly calling for victims to unite and file a class action lawsuit. Less than two weeks after news surfaced about the sordid case of COGIC pastor James Bell of Kentucky who possibly infected a teen boy with HIV, another shocking story of sexual abuse by COGIC clergy is unleashed upon us.

[…] If you or a family member have been sexually molested (or propositioned) within the last 10 years by a “credential holder” (licensed minister, ordained elder, bishop, et al)  in COGIC please contact gcmwatch@yahoo.com  GCM Watch immediately.

Click the article title to read in it’s entirety – it’s quite a doosey. I am on a tireless tirade against pulpit pimps of all persuasion, and after reading the many sordid details of allegation upon allegation of sexual abuse I am thoroughly convinced that COGIC harbors sexual pimps in addition to pulpit pimps.

That said, how does a class-action lawsuit (a civil matter) square with 1 Corinthians 6, specifically:

1 Corinthians 6:1-8 (New American Standard Bible)

1 Does any one of you, when he has a case against his neighbor, dare to go to law before the unrighteous and (A)not before the saints?

2 Or (B)do you not know that (C)the saints will judge (D)the world? If the world is judged by you, are you not competent to constitute the smallest law courts?

3 (E)Do you not know that we will judge angels? How much more matters of this life?

4 So if you have law courts dealing with matters of this life, do you appoint them as judges who are of no account in the church?

5 (F)I say this to your shame Is it so, that there is not among you one wise man who will be able to decide between his (G)brethren,

6 but brother goes to law with brother, and that before (H)unbelievers?

7 Actually, then, it is already a defeat for you, that you have lawsuits with one another. (I)Why not rather be wronged? Why not rather be defrauded?

8 On the contrary, you yourselves wrong and defraud. You do this even to your (J)brethren.

So scripture forbids (or, Paul expressly discourages) lawsuits amongst saints. So, what then do we make of (my emphasis in bold):

1 Corinthians 6:9-10 (New American Standard Bible)

9 Or (A)do you not know that the unrighteous will not (B)inherit the kingdom of God? (C)Do not be deceived; (D)neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor [a]effeminate, nor homosexuals,

10 nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, will (E)inherit the kingdom of God.

Should the victims of these horrible crimes be satisfied with levying just criminal charges while avoiding civil litigation against these degenerate predators?

Should the victims have the opportunity to hold COGIC civilly accountable for those who serve under their various jurisdictions around the world?

Should we just pray for the victims while continuing to look the other way as degenerate sexual deviants (in pulpits) continue to prey on the sheep – financially and sexually?

I am not one to shy away from biblical correction or rebuke – but I say hold COGIC accountable in court. They have ignored private pleas for decades so maybe they need to have the robes removed (so to speak).

Since Pastor Foster has a very interesting comment thread going on over there, I encourage you to post your comments there – but I’m always open to hearing what you have to say as well.

May God comfort the victims of these heinous crimes – and may His judgement fall upon those who mistreat His children.

The version I read of the first scripture reference says not to take brothers to court for trivial matters. These issues are NOT trivial matters. It’s one thing to go to court for maybe something like a land property line issue or stupid stuff like a neighbor throwing trash in someone’s yard. I would feel absolutely no conflict with pressing charges against a sex abuser. I would not give it a second thought. I would use that reference if anyone dared to tell me I was wrong. The Bible also says to obey the laws of the land. There are laws on the books that say that if you do not report known sex abuse you are in major trouble. It appears that one verse needs to be exercised on instead of telling people not to sue with disgusting madness like that going on for decades.

I had a sincere question about the first scripture reference. I just refused to believe that God meant that for the most heinous crimes against people that we do not go to the legal system that is set up by God to punish evildoers. I asked the leadership at my church about the first reference. They felt like I did on the matter, especially if they could not be appealed to as Christians. I will read the GCM blog to get the details. It is evident to me that someone tried to stop this but refused. Those victims, their parents or anyone that knows about this, has the right to go to the authorities on it.

BTW I grew up in the COGIC church. AT 17 YEARS OLD I decided to leave that denomination never to return. I observed the perversion back in the 70s when I was a girl. I thought NO THANKS to that nonsense. Who wants to be around a bunch of nasty men? Only other nasty men probably. GROSS.

The church should be a safe place for people; you shouldn’t have to be afraid to go to a church of any Christian denomination, but the individual people/churches should be held accountable for these crimes, not the entire COGIC. Every denomination has some sick, twisted person who gives them a bad name- sadly you hear it all the time. I’ve been exposed to good and bad Cogic churches as well as good and bad Catholic, Baptist, Methodist, Church of Christ, etc. churches, and my opinion is the same for all of them– the bad should be punished, not the whole– it’s only fair and logical.

im with Nicole you cant punish 6million people for a few bad seeds. I think that they should be outted and dealt with and I believe that God will do his job!

COGIC has been harbouring sexual predators for years. The silencing, at the expense of abusing our women and young children should be abhorred. COGIC’s lack of leadership (natural and spiritual) has been a cancer for many years. I grew up in COGIC and my father has been a pastor for 30 + years. At a young age, I would question him concerning the feminisation of the church. In stead of cultivating new leaders, they’ve allowed the demonic spirit of homosexuality to infiltrate the church. The current Bishop (Charles Blake) allowed Dr. Peter Gomes, an admitted homosexual, to address his congregation. When confronted, Blake denied knowing Gomes is gay. Not only is Blake a liar, but he’s sold his soul in order to find favour with the world of religious ecumenism. Blake’s West Angeles church is inundated with homosexual. In the last 15 – 20 years, Blake has looked the other way in order to fill the sanctuary. In private circles, Blake’s sexuality has been in question. His close association with Dr. Gomes and the late Bishop Husband (died of AIDS related illness) will ultimately be his downfall.
