“God’s Bailout”…Really?

Those of you who reside in Detroit or are “fans” of  “The Word Of God Has Nothing To Do With This Network” are familiar with Bishop Charles Ellis III of Greater Grace Temple in Detroit. I’ve heard him butchering the Word of God many times – and plead/threaten for money, so I can comfortably call him a pimp without reservation.

Since his congregation (and city) are knee deep in the auto industry financial crisis, Ellis decided is was time to weigh in on this mess. Did he admonish his congregation to curb their spending and save up for an impending financial crisis? Did he extend benevolence to those in his congregation who are losing their jobs and homes? Did he chastise the CEO’s of the auto industry for continually creating a product that no one wanted to buy?

Not quite:

Detroit Churches Pray for ‘God’s Bailout’

New York Times – 12/7/08

DETROIT — The Sunday service at Greater Grace Temple began with the Clark Sisters song “I’m Looking for a Miracle” and included a reading of this verse from the Book of Romans: “I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us.

Pentecostal Bishop Charles H. Ellis III, who shared the sanctuary’s wide altar with three gleaming sport utility vehicles, closed his sermon by leading the choir and congregants in a boisterous rendition of the gospel singer Myrna Summers’s “We’re Gonna Make It” as hundreds of worshipers who work in the automotive industry — union assemblers, executives, car salesmen — gathered six deep around the altar to have their foreheads anointed with consecrated oil.

So, Ellis thought it was a good idea to use “3 gleaming sport utility vehicles” as props in a worship service for people who may NO LONGER be producing those vehicles?

Yup – that sounds like the same logic that justifies the “name it and claim it” heresy and the “keep sowing into good ground and God will pay you back with 10 times the money you gave!” mentality.

Ellis is a proponent of the “prosperity gospel”, so he advances the lie that you have to “pay to play” – or give money to God (through men like him) in order to noticed by God.

I wonder if Chuck has told the struggling members of his congregation to NOT GIVE him their various tithe, offering, love offering, first fruit, anniversary, building fund, 1st lady’s appreciation, 1st family vacation, 1st family vehicle fund donations payments during this financial mess – or ever again.

Nah – that would be “too much like right” as my grandmother used to say. Thank God through Jesus Christ that He already afforded us a REAL “bailout” from our sin debt:

1 Peter 1:3 (New American Standard Bible)

3 (A)Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who (B)according to His great mercy (C)has caused us to be born again to (D)a living hope through the (E)resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead

WOW! That would really help the members of Greater Grace. But we all know that wasnt the goal of the bailout service. The prosperity leaders never want the sheeple to stop throwing money in their pockets no matter what. Even if it means getting some hybrid cars as a backdrop to help you preach a message about hybrid faith. Or is it hybrid giving?

You’ve scored a bullseye – they have neglected the one great bailout Christ made for us, and instead have set their hearts on money. How will they then escape if they neglect so great a salvation?

I shake my head in disbelief. Especially at the one line from the article: “…hundreds of worshipers who work in the automotive industry — union assemblers, executives, car salesmen…” These are people who have already received plenty of blessings financially – incomes well above the national average. Do they acknowledge that God was the source of that blessing? If so, did they then use it for His purposes – spending what they spent in accordance with His will, setting aside some of it wisely for the future, giving to those in need around them and not merely to this sanctified con man? Or was it all spent on fleshly desires and the lust of the eyes?

The congregation should never fall for this, not if they are seriously in the Word – but I lay a lot of this on Ellis, “… for they are keeping watch over your souls, as those who will give account” (Heb. 13:17). I would not want to be Ellis on that day of accounting.

“Woe to my worthless shepherd…” (Zech. 11:17). That’s another one every church leader should know – and with holy trembling.

Pastor, he hasn’t issued the edict about tithe, because that money is going to serve “Gawd”. And you know, a pimp has got to get paid, right?

My question (reissued) is where are the MC Hammer dancers? I mean isn’t that what they did back in day while gallivanting butt naked around Baal?!

    ST,

No wonder we get along so well….my mother still uses the phrase “too much like right”…… 🙂

But, speaking of the impending financial crisis and the benevolence of the mega churches, Eddie Long was on CNN this weekend and they were doing a short piece on how he gave a type of altar call for people that were suferring financial hardships (homelessness, job losses, etc…. ). According to the report, other members spontaneously came to the altar to help those who had responded and said that they were experiencing hardships. Eddie said that the other members were providing financial and material assistance without provocation.

I’m not sure if they mentioned that the church corporation itself was doing anything, but they definitely highlighted the fact that individual members were giving. So maybe the “benevolence” policy of your former club is changing for the better.

    We can only hope……

So maybe the “benevolence” policy of your former club is changing for the better.

I would hope so CiCi, but my cynisism of Club New Birth runs deep (honestly) so I pray that things are changing there as well. I was going to post the video of Eddie’s appearance on CNN in a seperate post, but I think your words summed it up nicely.

Eddie is STILL demanding tithes, offering, et al – so maybe he can start to recognize the financial strain on his congregation by NOT DEMANDING that they “pay God or starve”.

I guess I should pray even harder for those I left behind many years ago…

Hey I live in Metro Detroit. The Bible says Touch not my anointed and do my prophets no harm!!……..

    JUST KIDDING!! (SARCASM)

Seriously, I do live in Metro Detroit and went to his church one time. That is all it took. The place is nothing but an entertainment complex. He has so many entertainment functions there it is said. Hey, I guess keep the people entertained so they forget about their problems must be his remedy instead of the Gospel. He is just one of many pimps in Detroit that prey off of the citizens’ lustful desires for fortune and prosperity. It’s really sad. The Clark Sister are not better. All they care about is there name and fame. They are diluted of the word of God. Just listen to there songs.

Canadian Revivalist Todd Bentley formerly of Fresh Fire Ministries now an alien in U.S.A. should be on the FBI’s and RCMP Top Ten Wanted list
It doesn’t take a NASA rocket man to see Todd Bentley should Be on the FBI’s top ten most wanted list. A real & true con man. He should be a carnie, but then carnies would get a really horrible name.
All were warned, but few listened. Steve Strader certainly never got healed of His gout! Just think He had the mighty Todd & His 3 ring circus there for weeks, fleecing millions of dollars. Marilyn Manson was the only thing missing from His act. Steve you even say your Brother Daniel who is in Prison for stealing, is also innocent for fleecing your Daddy Karl’s flock. Do you own a Mirror?
So who will get all the stolen money? Todd said with his own lying lips, I don’t get one dime! Sure Todd and you never unzipped your pants either. get another tattoo or kick another old helpless lady in the face. You are disgrace and so are all these losers who endorsed your stealing and circus. Paul Cain, Bob Jones, Peter Wagner, all should thank Pat Holliday for helping expose them http://www.patholliday.com as she told the truth about this side show.
TODD will go down in history as another famous freak show. Do you feel stupid America? He is still snorting lines, laughing all the way to the bank, I would want to be on His Harley!
I hope his children never follow in His footsteps. Dave Bentley knew the truth, His son is a flake. Dave Tomlinson too! IS this all witchcraft? lol!

Turns out that Charles Ellis is a oneness pentecostal heretic. So the prosperity doctrine is actually the least of the problems for him and his congregation.
