Are You Ready To Confront Your Pimp?

***hat tip to regular reader Blessed for alerting me of this story***

I’m always happy to hear about when a member of the congregation confronts the pulpit pimp – I never imagined that it would end up like this, however:

Eagle’s Nest pastor sued by ex-member

By Abe Levy

A former member of Eagle’s Nest Christian Fellowship filed a lawsuit Wednesday against the church and its pastor, Rick Godwin, claiming he was defamed in front of the congregation when he tried to expose how Godwin was spending church money.

Larry Nail, a businessman from Boerne who belonged to the church for 11 years, says Godwin wrongly accused him of bribery in a speech responding to San Antonio Express-News articles that, based on church documents, raised questions about Godwin’s use of church funds for expensive chartered planes and lodging, luxury gifts and personal items.

In the suit, filed in Bexar County District Court, Nail wants his donations to the church returned, plus legal costs and damages. (click here for the entire article)

This story has been in the news in San Antonio since last fall, but it’s obviously taken a strange turn. Larry Nail is even bold enough to demand that pimp Ricky return his donations! How many of you would do that to your pimp – especially since your pimp and Ricky share the same spending habits? More interesting nuggets from the story:

Complicating matters for the church has been a stream of complaints by homeowners bordering the new property who claim the church hasn’t responded to their concerns about lighting, noise and other matters.

Hmm…sounds like the same complaints that Eddie Long and his “son” got when they built their stadiums (I mean churches) in quiet residential areas as well. But wait, there’s more (my emphasis in bold)…

The spending Nail refers to in the suit involved a fund set aside for outreach and missions. After the newspaper reports, Godwin told the congregation he paid back all personal expenses and launched a new tax compliance audit, among other corrective measures. He hasn’t made public when or which reimbursements were made.

At least Ricky admitted that he stole money that was to be used for outreach – and he paid it back (allegedly)…most pimps won’t even go that far. Brother Nail even attempted to resolve this issue biblically – to no avail:

Nail said in the suit that church staffers were afraid of losing their jobs if they confronted church leaders about Godwin’s questionable expenses. He said he offered to help them financially if they were fired and followed biblical instruction by taking the spending concerns to Godwin first and then to two elders, who were unwilling to confront Godwin.

You know that the church mafia is in full effect at this church. This brother offered to compensate anyone who lost their job as a result of this action, and they were still afraid to proceed! Further in the article, we see Ricky spew out the classic pimp response (my emphasis in bold):

According to the lawsuit, Nail said Godwin told him: “I’m not going to let someone eating a bologna sandwich (referring to church staff and lower-level employees) tell me how to spend money around here.”

So there you have it – this degenerate pimp uses church funds for his personal pleasure and he has the nerve to lash out at the “bologna sandwich” eaters? That’s Pimpistry 101!

If you are or know anyone who attends Eagles Nest Christian Fellowship/Summit Christian Center in San Antonio, then pray that the Lord would open their eyes and give them the courage to flee pimp Ricky.

Please pray that Rick opens his bible, thumbs over to 1 John 2:15-17, and recommits to loving His Savior and the sheep more than he loves his flesh.

This story has brought so many things to light. Here is some excerpts from blogs pertaining to Rick Godwin’s daughter who was given up for adoption by her father Rick Godwin.

    ***ST NOTE***

Thanks for your comment Exmember, but I had to delete the rest of your comment – frankly because it gets a lot deeper into Godwin’s alleged family issues. While it does speak to his character, I think it’s best not to spread that information on this blog. Per your request, people can visit the San Antonio news blog to learn more of the personal aspects of this story.

Hats off to the former member for fighting back. Fighting back is big step for a former “stroll walker.” More of these pimps need to be exposed. The Holy Spirit who we know is the convictor of all sin will eventually expose this heresy.

The neighbors aren’t going to be too happy this weekend because Hillsong and Brian Houston are here and they are L-O-U-D!! Godwin’s response was that he is complying with local laws….in other words….to hell with the neighbors and their wants and needs!! Yea, whatta pimp!!

A lawsuit? Does that mean you get your money back and then you pay the IRS for the deductions you received? Or does God then rescend His blessings for the money you gave? If any of this isn’t true then what happens?

  5. 5 Speaking Truth May 31, 2008 at 7:50 am

Nothing happens Steven. I think Nail is suing Godwin to make a larger point – that everyone is accountable to someone. Even though the Apostle Paul admonished the church to handle their own matters internally, Godwin clearly rejected the biblical method of resolution.

If Nail wins the lawsuit (which is probably a longshot), then any earnings are probably taxable anyway, so Uncle Sam will get his (as always). Also, you can type “tithe” into the search bar near the top-left of this page to read any of my prevous post detailing my opinion of the tithe scam, so there will be no rescending of God’s blessing.

I simply think that Nail was just making a point.

I hope that Larry Nail guy wins, but at least he is taking a stand and getting the word out to the peeps. He has like the best lawyer in this field, Gary Richardson, that dude is famous.

ya, I read that story about Shannon Godwin and his ex sister in law. It is really sucky what he did to Shannon. But according to Shannon, it wasn’t Rick Godwin as much as Cindy Godwin.

I really liked this Godwin dude, he had some good sermons but I won’t listen to him now! It’s clear he preaches that word of faith nonsense!! It’s like spiritual a crap shoot……The dude gives me the creeps!

He makes fun of people beneath him “eating balogna sandwiches” but he’s the one full of balogna!

Drugs or not, I believe Shannon’s story, it’s just too detailed to be made up, and why would she do that any way? What does she have to gain by saying anything? And man, that ex sister in law is firing mad and she had a lot of details too. Then that newspaper had a boat load of proof and evidence. I wonder if he paid that money back when did he do it? Probably after he got caught would be my bet!

Rick did nothing wrong, SUMMIT is completed we have record visitors at SUMMIT, nobody is complaining about noise, and what these people are saying is totally untrue, but keep taking trash about SUMMIT and Godwin, do you all remember that this is a reason for the big numbers of visitors people love controversy, and thats what is helping SUMMIT. Keep on talking brothers and sisters it only helps.

  8. 8 jock June 10, 2008 at 10:39 pm

Well since the SUMMIT doors open, IRS, Sen. Grassly, shannon, and ex sis in law have NOT even shown there faces at San Antonio, or SUMMIT, seems they were just talking bunk. Why? because its good publisity, and it’s also good publisity for SUMMIT.

Keep talking people. You don’t realize you are helping SUMMIT.

This post was written after I learned about this lawsuit from a San Antonio news website. For the most part, I really don’t care about any of the personal issues that Rick Godwin is dealing with, or the overall state of your church. You’re obviously a sympathizer so you’ve got a “dog in the fight”.

I don’t – and I could care less about what else happens there.

I posted this article as yet another example of a greedy pulpit pimp with a god complex gone wild – and one man’s attempt at dealing with him (biblically, at first), and holding him accountable for his actions.

    That’s it – that’s all.

    Keep it moving…

Ok, this post is starting to become a forum for current and former members of Summit/Eagle’s Nest Church to hurl personal accusations at each other and to vilify or defend Rick Godwin and his family.

I’m no supporter or critic of Summit/Eagle’s Nest – I live in suburban Atlanta, GA and I’ve never attended or heard of this church. The purpose of this post was to illustrate how a pulpit pimp was being called on the carpet by a former member of his congregation.

I’ve grown tired of standing between the “warring factions” in this debacle, so I’m closing the comments section on this post.

While Rick Godwin (in my opinion) is a pulpit pimp who extorts his congregation, I’m tired of being on the edges of this soap opera – and I will not allow this blog to be a tool for or against this church any longer.
