Drunk In The Spirit?

DISCLAIMER: In accordance to Ephesians 6:10-18, please pray before viewing or listening to any of Todd Bentley’s video or audio recordings. The only way to combat the evil of this day is with the unadulterated Word of God.

I don’t know what to make of the video you’re about to see – and I ask that you view it in it’s entirety before you post a comment.

Cast your eyes on Todd Bentley, an interesting fellow to say the least. Christian blogs all over the world are abuzz at Todd’s “healing services” (most recently in Lakeland, FL), and the odd nature of his ministry – as you’ll see once you view the video below.

Todd claims to have a “prophetic and healing anointing”, and (true to form), he wants you to partner with him to take his “ministry” all over the world.

“What ministry”, you ask? Well take a look at this (again, please view the entire video before commenting):

There is so much wrong with this guy that I don’t know where to begin, so I’ll point out a problem with Todd and his “angel visions”:

18Let no one keep (AU)defrauding you of your prize by (AV)delighting in self-abasement and the worship of the angels, taking his stand on visions he has seen, (AW)inflated without cause by his (AX)fleshly mind, (Colossians 2:18).

How about Todd’s “drunken glory” theory? Well, there is no evidence in Scripture of being “drunk in the Spirit”, although mockers incorrectly attributed drunkenness to the display that they saw on Pentecost (Acts 2). Even then, Peter spoke clearly about repentance and belief upon the Lord Jesus Christ for eternal salvation – he wasn’t stumbling around making weird noises and swaying back and forth under the “unction of the Holy Spirit”.

If Todd were really a prophet, then he would know 1 Corinthians 14:31-33 and 1 Corinthians 14:40. Is being “drunk in the spirit” and laughing uncontrollably honoring the Holy Spirit or making a mockery of Him?

In Colossians 2, Paul was exhorting the church at Laodecia to cling to their faith in the Lord Jesus, particularly because although he exposed them to the Gospel, he wasn’t there to insure that they remain in the faith. In verse 8, Paul says:

8(T)See to it that no one takes you captive through (U)philosophy and empty deception, according to the tradition of men, according to the (V)elementary principles of the world, rather than according to Christ.  – Colossians 2:8

Paul knew that the Word of God would be challenged by the cheap parlor tricks and persuasive speech of false teachers, and we are seeing that all across the globe today.

I ask that you read the entire 2nd chapter of Colossians for context – and to see how off base this guy is (to say the least).

I also ask that you join me in continuing to pray that saints would study the Word of God for themselves so that they not fall prey to false teachers, twisted doctrine and empty religious show that does not glorify God.

Uhhh… still waiting to hear the Word preached. His antics are supported by nothing biblical in so far as I am aware. Geez what next?

He lost me when he said, “There is something very Angelic about tonight”…Uhm what!? Since when did we start worship of angelic beings. Strictly Verbotin!!! Mine Frueind! He needs to go back to where he first believed. And quit trying to be so deep. This man is beyond trickery and fakery and he has an obvious spirit of affectation working!!!!

Wow, I don’t even know where to begin. First off, did you see his eyes? Did anyone else see the whites of them? Because I sure didn’t! They looked completely black. Secondly, what was all the fuss about? I personally see a spirit of homosexuality about him. Bottom line is we need to not only pray for those being deceived but for the deceivers as well. God help them! (thanks for the article Bro! Love your blog!)

    It gets worse…MUCH worse!

This is called being “drunk with the wine of spiritual fornication”

Paul condemned the worship of angels – yet Bentley thinks he is better than the Apostle who wrote most of the NT.

My wife won’t even allow me to play Todd Bentley’s videos in our home.

Now that the truth is known about this man, he should become the object of prayer for restoration (or salvation). The real problem is that the 500+ ‘certified’ apostles and prophets have foolishly commissioned TB into their ranks and have given him the keys to most of the world’s countries. The impartation that TB exercised has reached us way down in Southern Africa and we now have people singing songs like ‘winds of change – rain down’ with a golden angel having a postion of prominence at the front of the hall, people getting drunk in the spirit at every opportunity (and becoming extremely depressed when they can’t get their spiritual fix), hissing, shaking uncontrollably, trembling, laughing uncontrollably – all in the name of ‘revival’… Yet there is no trace of recognition\remorse for sins and no respect got the Holiness of God.
Please pray for the deceived ones, before they become lost in their delusion.

I happen to be Pentecostal and this display is completly HELLISH, ungodly, and beyond heresy. God help those who are decieved by Satan.

The beginning of the end is here. There was no anointing on this man. He looked like he was possesed. All those tattoos. I know that people can be saved and delivered after they’ve marked their body, but he should have some decency to cover them up when he’s “ministering”. There was no scripture, no anointing, no God. And when he was saying something about the angels are going to visit the children, it made me think about the fact that demon and devils of hell were once angels and I honestly think that those were the angels he was talking about. God’s true followers need to stand up! Stand up and speak up! He definitely was in the spirit of affectation when he was saying that he wants to be in the cloud. Focusing on himself and all those movements and laughing.

I have been a pentecostal christian for many years and have personally exprienced what I saw in this video. I live in Australia so I don’t attend Todd’s church. You all sound like a bunch of self rightous pharisees. The GOD I know works in ways that don’t always appear to be so called normal. Do yourselves a favour, read HEAVEN IS SO REAL by Choo Thomas or read a Rick Joynor book then cast judgment on what you see. Mans wisdom is so foolish to the things of GOD, I love that about GOD.
I do hope the Paster Nash that made a comment is not from Austraia because if they are they may have already experienced this same move in the church.

Well Fleeton, the God I know orchestrates things to be done in His house in decency and in order. Instead of reading the accounts of men, why don’t you read the Word of God directly – 1 Corinthians 14 in entirety, including:

1 Corinthians 14:40 (New American Standard Bible)

But all things must be done properly and in an orderly manner.

This has NOTHING to do with Pentecostalism, and EVERYTHING to do with a demonic imp who has fooled the sheep. If you seek this kind of demonic entertainment, then the Lord’s will be done.

You are sooo right,be like the breans and check the word for yourself. 2 PETER:3-3 Puts it this way,FIRST OF ALL, YOU MUST UNDERSTAND THAT IN THE LAST DAYS SCOFFERS WILL COME,SCOFFING AND FOLLOWING THEIR OWN EVIL DESIRES!I could go on—-There is so much FIRE POWER in the N.T.—But just one more. 2 Peter 2-3 says; In their GREED these teachers will exploit you with stories they have made up. AGAPE RON.

This man may be in nothing more than a mockery of God, BUT being drunk in the Spirit is not a mockery of God. The reason why it is called “drunk” is because of the surge of overwhelming emotion while in God’s presence and the extreme joy found in this experiance. I myself have began to laugh, and cry, and just become extremely “drunk feeling” before, though never to the extent of this fraud. There is no true way of explaining this phenomena which is why it has been dubbed as being drunk.
    Seriously though, think about it:
If you are truly alowed to witness a glimpse of God’s glory, would you not be a little “drunk” yourself? You’d cry because you were ashamed of your wretchedness. You’d dnace and laugh out of joy and excitement. You’d even fall over out of total shock and awe. The presesnce of God a POWERFUL thing to witness.
My friends, do not be decieved into thinking that God can not reveal Himself (or some minute part of)to us. This is where the American church is beginning to fade away. They reject the speaking in tongues, healings, prophecies, and many other gifts and wonders of the spirit. They have lost their first love and true joy in the Lord and are wondering why they “don’t feel it anymore”…
Do NOT quinch the Spirit my brothers and siters! I commend you on keeping an eye out for false teachers, but do not deny the manifestations of the Spirit! The God of the Old Testament is the same as the New Testament is the same as the God of today! Not a bit less powerful, only quinched. Even Jesus Himself was only able (or at least would only choose) to preform miracles and healings if those arround Him had faith in Him! “Where are the miracles today?” so many ask; I will tell you: Where those with great faith can be found!
    God Bless
