“If You Don’t Pay God, You Won’t Get Fed!”

This picture of Eddie Long is a still shot from a music video he filmed 10 years ago. I thought it was appropriate to share it, considering the nature of the photo speaks to Eddie’s personality. Kind of looks like Jim Jones, doesn’t he?

Sure, Eddie is known for the parties he throws every Easter at the Georgia Dome (complete with celebrity friends), his game of cat and mouse with the Fed’s, and even his recent embrace of homosexuality.

But let’s not forget – Eddie is first and foremost a pulpit pimp, which means he knows how to hustle a little cheddar (i.e. solicit funds) when he has to.

Here’s a recent video of Eddie in action. I call this a textbook lesson of Pimping 101. Listen to how he masterfully distorts the Word of God:

Let’s recap, shall we?:

  • “If you don’t pay God, you won’t get fed!”
  • “When you pay God your tithe (10% of your gross) you are giving God your faith!”
  • “You’re telling God ‘I believe you gonna protect my stuff’ “!
  • “God says “Let me tell you something, we in Las Vegas now, I want you to take a risk with me’ ”

Then he has the audacity to say that God is telling the non-tither “you have let money posses you that you don’t trust Me enough to give you more than you give Me”.

Huh? He’s got the…um…intestinal fortitude to actually say that – while pimping people out of there hard earned money so that he can have more possessions?

Is he serious?

Sadly, yes he is.

I could type until my fingers bleed – warning the sheep to read God’s Word for themselves. The fact remains that there are plenty of preachers pimps who feel compelled to torture you into giving to them instead of letting the Word of God speak for itself.

Read the entire book of Malachi (instead of just Malachi 3:10 – the verse that pimps beat into you) for the full context of scripture.

While you’re at it, read 2 Corinthians 9:6-8 for an accurate picture of giving (to God and for the needs of the saints) from your heart rather than from intimidation.

Oh, and stay away from this money-hustling, scripture-twisting, Federal investigation evading alpha pulpit pimp.

Dude what music video was that – he looks whack!

Seriously, in my study of the man-made doctrine of tithing, I have found that all the argumentations for it cannot be made from the New Testament, and as a Reformed person, I believe that anything that cannot be substantiated by the analogia fide, the full teaching of both testaments is a load of garbage…

  2. 2 dupednomore August 7, 2008 at 6:36 pm

Hey! I was wondering where Landers got all his lines from. I mean it’s word for word! He also added a few @ Club Hustle & Flow (I like this description)
-Your treasure is where your money goes
-“Pressed down, Shaken Together” (My favorite)
-Your check book is a direct reflection of your faith and trust in God
-The Tithe “Allows” God to get involve in your financial matters and the “Offering” brings the increase (Whoa!)

I could go on and on……Ok, I will
-Pastor’s Birthday giving (Come on….Surely you can spare a hundred dollars for the man of gawd!)
-Pastor’s Church Anniversary (Ok! maybe you didn’t have a chance to give during my birthday)
-Pastor’s Wedding Anniversy (First Lady needs a new purse)
-Guest Pimp (Buy my new book and prosper beyond your wildest dreams)
-Another Guest Pimp (Well, you get the picture)

I know that “Fast Eddie” got this style of preaching from TD, but who came up with this scheme to begin with??

  3. 3 speaking truth August 7, 2008 at 8:33 pm

    Doug,

Take a look at the full video of Eddie pimping in style (they did a remix version where he was flying in on a helicopter but I can’t find it yet). What a ministry tool – right?

    Also, you said:

I believe that anything that cannot be substantiated by the analogia fide, the full teaching of both testaments is a load of garbage…

Please expound on this argument since most people won’t understand when you refer to the Reformed tenet of analogia fide.

    dupednomore,

You’ve got me doubled-over in laughter at your comment. For a guy who just fled the pimp, you’ve sure got a lot of “repressed agression”

  4. 4 Douglas K. Adu-Boahen August 7, 2008 at 10:00 pm

Oh sure thing, sir! The analogy of faith or analogia fide is a hermeneutical prinicple that says that a teaching or doctrine must conform to the totality of God’s revelation in the Word. Oftentimes, you will hear it distilled to the one-liner, “The Bible interprets the Bible”. Thus, if we say there is a Trinity, it would mean that we must begin with the revelation of God in the OT as well as the NT.

    I hope it wasn’t too confusing…

  5. 5 Douglas K. Adu-Boahen August 7, 2008 at 10:02 pm

In relation to the modern doctrine of the tithe, it cannot conforms to the above principle, since they dwell exclusively in the Old Testament without any real hermeneutics or guidelines.

  6. 6 speaking truth August 7, 2008 at 10:17 pm

Excellent explanation Doug. We often hear Reformers say the the OT is Christ concealed and the NT is Christ revealed – thus the Christological references fron Genesis to Malachi.

We can’t just discard one testament because it doesn’t conform to our philosophy of the other testament – thus we must look at the totality of scripture. The tithe is one of the more simple concepts to understand – if you read the Word and not listen to the pimps.

If it were such an iron-clad principle that applied to Jews AND Gentiles, then we would’ve seen the Apostles refer to it throughout the NT clearly – and not just Jesus’ reference to the tithe to the Pharisees in Matthew 23:22-24 (which is NOT an endorsement of tithing, but rather affirmation that it was a practice of the day).

    Good stuff, young man!

BTW – I went back and added the link to Eddie’s music video in my earlier comment to you above…

  7. 7 Douglas K. Adu-Boahen August 8, 2008 at 7:10 am

No problem bro. Just saw the music video – I don’t think I’ll be buying another Byron Cage album if that is why my money is going ;)

  8. 8 DMac August 8, 2008 at 9:18 am

    Wow….

These guys are so brazen, there is no hint of subtlety about the way in which they extort funds from their listeners. I’m constantly at a loss as to how people can not see through these teachers.

Let me ask you an honest and sincere question. As a black man I can’t help but notice that many of the people who buy into this prosperity garbage our themselves invariably people of colour. Jakes, Price, Long and a whole host of WoF teachers primarily preach to African Americans. I’m from the UK and here in London we have a preacher called Mathew Ashimolowand he often hosts Long, Creflo etc… His church is predominantly made up of black people.

Perhaps it just comes down to simple demographics, but I have to say that as a man of colour, it grieves me when I see our people being exploited by these kinds of teachers.

  9. 9 DMac August 8, 2008 at 9:20 am

Apologies, I posted before posing my question. Do you feel that we are specifically being targeted by these people or is it just a coincidence that many of the teachers come from within these communities?

    Thanks

  10. 10 speaking truth August 8, 2008 at 10:47 am

Do you feel that we are specifically being targeted by these people or is it just a coincidence that many of the teachers come from within these communities?

That’s a very good question DMac – and one that I’ve explored in the past, particularly in shining light on a pimp that was traveling through poor communities in the Southern US extorting money from blacks and other minorities.

I too am a black man, and I believe that the problem begins with how these pimps take advantage of our historical allegiance to the church. Often times the church was a source of strength and refuge in our community – and you trusted the pastor more than you did many other authority figures because you saw him working in the community to assist those in need.

Nowdays, these pimps don’t even live within a 20 mile radius of the stadiums they’ve built for church services club meetings. And they (black, white, and other) have adopted the philosphy of “going where the money is – and can be easily extracted”, so they always find a willing audience.

In the previous post reference above, I also noted in the comment section that Paula White, Cheryl Brady and other non-black pimps adopt an “urban dialect” when speaking before a predominately black audience, but return to the King’s English when before a predominately white crowd. Same with Jesse DuPlantis, Rod Parsely, and others.

So the bottom line is that while I personally feel that we’re being targeted because of our wilingness to “just give and trust God to sort it all out”, the vipers will target any group that will pay them – and the homosexual lobby is the latest group that is getting attention (and accomodation) from these wolves.

Thanks for stopping by DMac – come again!

  11. 11 speaking truth August 8, 2008 at 10:49 am

Oh, and I forgot to mention that Eddie’s been running with Matthew Ashimolow since the mid-90’s – trying to get his “world-wide influence” credentials.

  12. 12 Ken August 8, 2008 at 11:39 am

I have to say DMac’s comments really struck a nerve with me because I have noticed that “we” seem to be more susceptible to this sort of thing. IST your reply was right on. These vipers know this and have taken a positive thing and used it to line their own pockets. I can’t help but think about Jesus asking Peter over and over, “do you love me”, and every time Peter said yes, Jesus said, “feed my sheep.” If you love the shepherd, REALLY, TRULY, love the shepherd this is the test. And these pimps and pimpettes fail it every single time. And not to sound like Andy Rooney, but have you ever noticed that almost without fail every one of these people signs off their broadcast/infomercials by telling the sheeple how much they “love” them. Feed the sheep, not on the sheep!

  13. 13 Douglas K. Adu-Boahen August 8, 2008 at 12:49 pm

    Don’t touch Passah Matthew

Seriously he is definitely climbing up the ladder of pimpdom out here in London. I live in the same city as his church and I know for sure that if you go to church, 8 out of 10 times, you’re a member of good ol’ Passah Matthew’s church.

His yearly racket, International Gathering of Champions [or should I say, money-loving wolves], kicks up soon. I went last year and man did they pull out all the stops to extort money from the sheeple – who of course were more than happy to oblige…

    This is so very true……

Don’t trip djenk23 – we used to jam to that garbage when I was on Eddie’s plantation

  17. 17 naturalsystah August 9, 2008 at 2:22 pm

Oh dear… ““If you don’t pay God, you won’t get fed!”

My husband just remarked that it looks like Ole Eddie’s been paying God a LOT then!

  18. 18 gcmwatch August 9, 2008 at 10:37 pm

    Run people of God, RUN!
The hireling’s only cravomg is to get paid. He cares nothing for the welfare or well being of the flock. He preaches for payment. He represents only his interests and not God’s.

Run. Dont run to another hireling in the hireling club, run to Jesus and let him heal all the knife wounds the hireling has inflicted to get your goods.

Then let the Lord send you to a shepherd who will care for you and tell you the truth with or without a dime given by you.

“For I will give you pastors after my heart and they will feed you with knowledge and understanding.” Jeremiah 3:15

Ask youself after reading the evidence IST has presented if Eddie Long even remotely fits the picture of a pastor after God’s heart or that of a greedy ceo/tycoon running a multimillion dollar empire?

When Eddie Long tells you if you don’t pay God you wont get fed, is that something from the heart of God or the greed and avarice of Long?

Run, before this robber will have cleaned out your entire account, savings and livelihood. If you need help once its gone, dont expect him to do anything. You may or may not get $50 in benevolence.

Thanks IST, may God give you peace and safety.

If Fast Eddie is right, than he should tithe 10% of his hair and he’ll get 30, 60, 100 fold to cover that bald spot in the middle :D .

Hair will be pressed, shaken and running over him!

  20. 20 N'Catina August 11, 2008 at 8:27 am

    ROFL @ IC….very, very funny!

  21. 21 speaking truth August 11, 2008 at 10:29 am

Good point IC – Eddie’s been losing his hair for the past 10+ years, so wouldn’t it be a great example of his exalted “faith” if he were to “speak over” his hair folicles and demand a return?

I mean, c’mon – as they say in my old neighborhood “don’t talk about it – be about it”!

  22. 22 ebert August 13, 2008 at 4:58 pm

I am still praying, every time I hear Malachi 3:10, that I might see Malachi 2:1-3 come to pass, which says:
1- And now, O ye priests, this commandment is for you.
2- If ye will not hear, and if ye will not lay it to heart, to give glory unto my name, saith the LORD of hosts, I will even send a curse upon you, and I will curse your blessings: yea, I have cursed them already, because ye do not lay it to heart.
3- Behold, I will corrupt your seed, and spread dung upon your faces, even the dung of your solemn feasts; and one shall take you away with it.

Send the dung, O Lord! May what is filling the insides be made manifest on the outsides, that your people may smell, and see the corruption of these houses. Then may they turn to you, and taste and see that you alone are good. In Jesus’ name, Amen

Eddie Long is a great preacher he gets people fired up and inspired about the bible. The great commission is to spread the word to the ends of the earth, and giving money to your church is one way to achieve that. Anytime I give my money to the church I never miss it and never do without. The Lord blessess me regular and getting to listen to Eddie Long preach is always a blessing.

  24. 26 speaking truth September 8, 2008 at 7:12 pm

    believer,

I can outline the bible from Genesis to Revelation and detail how Eddie Long is a false teacher, a money-hungry pulpit pimp, and a newfound fan of the homosexual lobby. But I’m tired, so you can use the search box of this blog (in the upper right-hand corner of this blog), Google Eddie’s name, and open your bible and read it for yourself (I recommend starting in the books of Timothy, Titus, 1 & 2 Peter, and Corinthians).

Rather than deconstruct your comment point by point, I’ll simply say that I’m praying that the Lord open your eyes and that He gives you an aversion to admiring such a blatant pulpit pimp like Long (and his cronies).
